Toyota lights on your TJ! Cheap, quality LED alternative

Ya it got pretty deep. It was a slow craw in behind a few other Jeep’s. I just slid down into the one pocket that got the water up past my lights.

why would I replace fluids and bearings?
I would say it was pretty deep to get water in your headlights.

The front diff breather is just above that light and the coolant reservoir. If I was in water that deep I would be checking and or replacing fluids in the axles at least juts as a precaution. Wheel bearings don't usually last that long when exposed to repeated mud exposure and if you have water in the Diffs, left unchecked, will toast those Bearings too. Mud, especially deep mud, is tough on vehicles. I mean look at your headlights. Imagine where else that mud went.

We hydrolocked a rig once at a water crossing. Pulled plugs and got the water out but it took an oil change or two to get all the water out.

So will these lights be an upgrade from stock? If so in what way? Better light, better construction or just the capability of running higher wattage bulbs? Thanks!

Streets are poorly lit if at all in the rural areas so I have a set installed on my '93 PZJ75 3.5L overseas....
Installed a relay harness for the H4 bulbs and upgraded the bulbs to 80/100W.
Purchased a Koito kit for my '01 TJ Sport....

If anyone is looking for a nice alternative to LEDs and is considering the h4 route, Toyota sells a complete h4 conversion kit directly from the dealer. Part number 81110-60P70. It comes with a very nice harness with weather pack fuse holders and room for a spare fuse within the weather pack. A bag a zip ties, dielectric grease, instructions and an apology letter from Toyota saying they are sorry the crap sealed beams you thought you ordered are being replaced with these brighter h4 conversion beams. All this for the low price of $64 usd shipped to your door. My local dealer had it in stock for $58 but Ihad already ordered from their online site. This is cheaper than the hella ecodes which are typically $80 for just housings. These Koitos housings are suppose to have a better pattern as well.

I just stumbled upon this part number going down an h4 conversion black hole, finding a thread on ih8mud linked here with some nice beam pattern photos. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-head-light-upgrade-led-bulbs.1173612/page-3

Daniel Stern also sells these koito housings on his site for $90 and claims he likes pattern as much as Cibies e ecodes which are more expensive and harder to find. https://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html

I can't believe you get all this for the price and quality.

I will try and post some light pattern photos tonight. Seams like a nice cheap alternative to led lights. I like the original look of the h4s vs the LEDs personally on the TJ. I currently have hella ecodes but have never been satisfied with the beam pattern though they are better than stock. I just wanted to pass what seems like a nice conversion kit, along to others. If I read this discussion right these are plug and play

Correct, you can run them with or without the harness that comes with them. The harness would be recommended if you plan to run a higher wattage bulb. Running the harness is still plug an play. No modifications needed to factory harness or headlight mount.

Thanks again!

I’ll be ordering a second kit if they prove to be as good as folks say…. Just in case I break one, or they go on intergalactic back order.

Ordered a set of these today. Toyota parts shop is walking distance from me office so no shipping.. $41.88 and done. Should have them in two days.

Replacing a set of practically new Amazon TruckLite knockoffs.
Let us know what you think. I had my eye on a set of IPF lenses and the Fat Boy bulbs, but at 3-4x the cost, I'm thinking these might be the way to go.

I REALLY liked the IPFs when I had them in my jk. Let’s see how these are. I like the bright white color of the LEDs but not the pattern of the ones i have.

And this is the second set of LEDs since the summer.

There are very few LED headlights that I like the look of, especially on TJs. I'm going to move to H4, just trying to decide which way to go. I hear really good things about the IPFs. Glad to know you have experience with them too for comparison.

You could always try a whiter color h4 bulb in the housings once you get them.

I am running a 100/80w Hella bulb now. It's nice at night being able to see.

I'm going to do exactly the same on my Unlimited. I ordered the 100/80 Hella bulbs from Q-Tec.
