Modification of OEM Air Box

May be worth checking out the first 1/3 of the Low-Buck Revival episode of Roadkill garage as they tear down a lava-dust ravaged mopar, hahahahahaha

we had a guy at work (atl airport) that had a old piece of shit skylark. he cut holes just behind the back window and ran his exhaust out at a 45 deg angle. at night he would fire it up and it would shoot a flame 4ft. the tower called our security to find out what the hell was going on ! 🤣

Damn, I really like that shark there.
Meh, its OK. Its a typical tourist dive. But there's several very good Greek and/or Middle Eastern places around here - ya just gotta know where they are! When we first moved here, we were a bit flummoxed over the apparent lack of good restaurants - but we eventually found them.

I can't remember the name of the place but it looked like an old gas station that had decent boiled crawfish.

So I was looking at this blog: (https://jeepm62superchargerkit.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_15.html). It has a whole bunch of dyno results on stock and modified 4.0Ls (including strokers and boosted engines) sent in by readers which are interesting. It also has the reprinted dyno results of an April 2008 JP Magazine intake shoot out that would seem to suggest there ARE some modest gains to be had with intake upgrades (10-13hp and 9-10 ft.lbs.). This seems to refute the idea that the stock airbox and paper filter flow more than the 4.0 can ingest. They used an 01 TJ 4.0, 5-spd as their test mule. Have you seen this @Jerry Bransford?

Dynos are not the precise instruments some have been lead to believe they are. Not even close.

That the magazine article said or at least implied that a TB spacer and K&N air filter added any power just adds to the overwhelming evidence that article was full of bullshit. Let's not forget that Jp Magazine made its $$$ from advertisers like K&N and various sellers of useless items like TB spacers. Jp Magazine was definitely not going to publish an article that trashed what some of its advertisers pushed.

Considering that one flight through a volcanic dust cloud takes out jet engines that run practically forever with no filters in normal conditions, I don't think that is a normal comparison.

Exactly. That jet engines have been taken out by flying through clouds of volcanic ash is fact.

it's not. They were running carbs with no air filters in a lava field and ended up in a sandstorm.
It's just comedy

I've only had any of my vehicles on dynos 3 times (so minimal). Looking over those results, 2-3% variation between pulls was typical. The JP test showed 9% variance in HP. I agree financial bias must be considered. I also agree the results do NOT support any effect of a TB spacer. Personally, my butt dyno has never said intake mods made a difference on any vehicle and currently I have stock air boxes and paper filters on all my rides, including my TJ. Just food for thought/conversation.
