Cutting pattern for window glass

Hi,

I live in Thailand and a local repair shop has heavily scratched my driver side window glass. Orderding from the US would be like $300 - $400 for shipping only, and I wouldn't trust that it would arrive in one piece.

A local car glass company would be able to laser cut the glass for me, but I need a cutting pattern or however that is called correctly, to get the exact measurement.

Is there any chance to get that somewhere? There are no Jeep dealers in Thailand, it's all imported.

it's unfortunately super deep.. you can feel them with your finger nails. I've had my jeep repainted and while removing the door handles they completely destroyed it. passenger side is less scratched, plus one big fat scratch in the middle of the windshield - no clue how they managed to do that.

I've just contacted two car glass companies in the US which sell jeep wrangler windows, if I can buy the pattern from them.

If you have the glass with the scratches, use it as the template. If not, remove the other side and use it. They are the same just mirrored. Not sure why you are doing this the hard way.

I'm worried that if I use the glass as a template to draw a line around on a piece of cardboard.. how the hell should that be accurate down to the mm (or inch or whatever unit)? I expect if the glass is slightly to big or to small I'm f..cked? It's not like I can sand a piece off, if it's too big.

unfortunately not how it works in Thailand... if somebody is to stupid to do things right.. you don't want to relay on them a second time.. or the glass will be 5cm too small.. or cut by hand from window glass.. hold in place by duct tape.. they always manage to surprise you with new stupidity here. not intend to sound racist, just my experience here. learned it the hard way again with this project.. don't leave them ever alone with your car.. or anything.

that's also why I'm worried that if I send the car glass manufacturer a cardboard by mail they will do something stupid... they probably fold the glass, because the cardboard was folded in the envelope. that's why I was hoping for a simple PDF or CAD file I can send them.. but if that's not possible I have to do the cardboard way I guess.

Lay the glass down on cardboard and spray it with spray paint… boom perfect template. The glass is ruined either way

That leaves the obvious answer. Here is the bill for the glass I am having shipped from the States. It will be crated so it won't break.

I guess you both have never been to Asia or Thailand. It's not how things work over here.. you can't sue somebody. Plus the cost of the glass from US would be 3 month salary. So I need to offer a reasonable solution in the first place, that they can afford and accept to pay for it at all, or otherwise they just claim the scratches were in there already and bring 10 family members/employees to confirm that. But again.. you don't sue in Thailand because a) it takes 10 years and b) thai vs non-thai, thai always wins

I agree with Mr. Blaine - just use the existing glass as a template. What you seek is the actual manufacturer's drawing to replicate it, and that's highly proprietary. No one is going to provide that level of detailed information.
