that is cool and a good idea - I was more thinking about one for when it's in a spot I can't get to without running over a bunch of brush/thicket/understories and whatnot
I've had alot of success with Warn M8000's on TJ's. I pair them with synthetic rope. That combination is a very lightweight and strong setup.
I'm running a Warn Zeon 10. Though I have wheeled with people that swear by their Harbor Freight Badlands winches.

Some brands up here might not be the same as the US but I run an RFX9500 which is made by Bulldog Winch for a semi-local offroad dealer North Shore Offroad. Bought mine for just under $400USD after tax, slapped on some amazon synthetic 3/8" line, amazon hawse, WRG thimble
, and a wireless remote.
I don't wheel hard, so the winch doesn't get used that often. I've winched other rigs more than I've winched myself and it has so many other practical uses that i take full advantage of as well. That RFX9500 has been on my rig for 4 years now with only a cheap amazon fabric cover to keep the weather off. It'll drag the jeep even with all four tires locked up (excluding pavement) and I've never done any kind of service or maintenance on it whatsoever.

An American made Warn is the way to go IMHO. My Jeep has an 8000 series that many people say is the only thing to put on a TJ. Had it not been on there when I bought it, I would have put the Warn Zeon on it which is American made.

I have several friends and relatives with Chinese Warns or Badlands because they don’t want to spend the extra money. One of them is wealthy enough to own a Citation jet, but still put on the Badlands. Everyone has their own thought process I suppose.

My experience with skidding logs is much easier with a chain. The only thing I can think of that would have me using a winch for that is if there were mud. or a manicured lawn that I didn’t want to tear up with lugged tires. If you can use a chain, it’s typically faster and easier.

My winch experience is limited. But ten years ago I bought a Warn Zeon for my JK because everyone told me that it was the best. Five years ago I finally tried to use it and it wouldn’t work at all. I took it apart and found that the seals had allowed moisture into the works. A very long day of cleaning everything out and I got it to work again. Then I sold it and my two Smittybilt winches that I’ve owned since have worked great. Both combined for less money than the one Warn.
