I don't care how good a driver you are...if you run out of clearance in mud...you're stuck. I'm still teetering...Only a few can drive well enough on 33’s to not need 35’s!
Showing off them new 38" tires and looking like the big dog next to the guy running 33" tires. The only thing it did for me was I felt it made the Jeep ride better. And damn it crawled over stuff now that I had to bump over with the 35" tires.
I was the big guy on the block but we all went to the same place. The white Rubicon on the Right has 37" BFG's & a Avenger SC.
They stuck me out front to break trail for everyone else.
33's, locked, and properly geared will get you where you want to go and a winch will get you where you shouldn't go.

I've been saying I'm coming down to do the Rubicon for over 20 years..... One of these days.

I want to go in 2022. Maybe TJ Fest could do the Rubicon, Fordyce, Dusy, et al in 2022. And everyone in CA said?
You can't stay away from MUD in WA...... Even in July/Aug/Sept there is still mud on some trails. And as has been said tire size sometimes don't matter in MUD....
I'm in the dry part of WA just like you but up in the mountains there is still mud becasue depending on the year the snow might not melt until July or even Aug in some areas. It's a mix sometimes of fun to still find snow but then a PITA because it's worse by that time of year. I've never wheeled in ID so I don't know what it's like. And I've heard wheeling in MT is suppose to be great too.
I have been know to say the same thing about 4-lo. 4wd is good for getting you stuck, 4-lo is good for getting you... Really stuck!
Yeah, I don't think tires would have mattered here either...
