Good to know! I have a similar setup to install so I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the reply!
Is your tailgate skin the Savvy? If so, there are four holes you’ll probably want to drill so it rests flush against the tailgate. It’s a bit of a pain, but mrblaine shared a method that worked pretty well for me.

My hinges are Exogate, bc I used to use that system, but my guess is stock hinges would work fine too.

Yup mine is a savvy, do you happen to have a link to that method possibly?

So far, these are the posts I found that are important. Also read some of the following posts on each page. They give good related information. Also, @mrblaine did send me a link to some bolts that are made for the very purpose of threading into the four holes on the tailgate to mark the locations on the back of the tailgate skin so you can drill them accurately. They would be more accurate than the one's I made. I don't have that link, but he will know what they are called or where to find them. Take your time to get it right.

Transfer screws. Need to know the thread pitch in the holes and then use something like this.

Rears & Gears setup the gears in my HP44 for me. He does good work. I can run over and get it for you if you want.
That is very gracious. Don’t know why you’re so nice to me. I invaded you and Karlee’s life one night. 🤣

Here’s what I’m thinking. I want to run the 456’s and see how I like them with 35’s. Just the way I am. One thing at a time, test, stay or make another change. I’m still testing. Right now I’m absolutely fine with the 456’s. What I need to drive on is some long highway hills.

4:10s were drivable with 35s. I got on the highway, did 70, etc. Where I noticed it was on 2 lane blacktop, 55 was 4th gear territory. And then, I needed a down shift to get up any modest hill to maintain speed. Same on the highway. There was no passing power. I have all the stuff to re gear to 4.88 and I can't wait to do so.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with 4.88 on the red jeep. We have about the same final drive and 5.13, limited to the Dana 30, would be liveable. I can easily cruise at 75 80 now and if I had to add a locker due to the oem rubicon lockers exploding I'd take that time to go to 5.38.

5-speed?

I have the 6-speed. The math says 4.71 ratio for 35’s with my tranny. So, 4.56 is slightly under, 4.88 slightly over. If I’m going to make a gear change I’d only do it if it was 5.13.

Yes, 5 speed. If I had 4.56, I don't know that it would be bad enough to change em.

The interesting thing is that the reason I'm not installing now is I don't have enough time to get them installed and broken in before my next trip. I'll have the 35s though, so I'll find out what a 300 mile, one way, road trip feels like undergeared!

Drummond?

Drummond?
Yup. Bringing the wife and and two other couples. Not a "wheeling" trip per se, more color tour and exploring. We'll do marble head though, shale Beach, and the ledges. I want to see how my wife reacts to crawling too. She like exploring two tracks, but hasn't done any crawling with me yet.

You have to remember those charts don't tell the whole story. Yes it might say that is where you need to be but you have to consider that you have more rolling resistance & wind resistance cause you sit higher. So IMO you'd want 5.13 to bring you back to a better power curve. You don't have the larger climbs near you like I do so I'm sure the 4.56 are fine for now. But when and if you decide to go deeper then IMO it's 5.13 for the win.

Drove through the UP and down to Oscoda over Labor Day, still working on all the fudge I bought. Was thinking about how close I was to Drummond, someday I’d like to go back. Have fun.

Don't let the forum pressure you into 4.88s. Do what works for you. Remember what happened with the fox shocks?

I don't think anyone is pressuring him to regear. IMO it's just people saying when and if you do decide to regear here are some things to think about prior to droppin that coin.

I wanted the Fox shocks. I ride MTB too, and run a Fox Float in the rear and a Fox 34 in the front. I really like those shocks and with the advertised Savvy Tune and rep of Savvy, I wanted them. Also bought the Maxxis tires because they make a lot of MTB tires that are high quality. At any rate, I’m not inclined to re-gear, and it’s not a light decision. If I do I will go to 513 for sure.
