Try changing the oil on a 3.6 Chevy Traverse. The filter is right next to the cat converter. It's a guaranteed knuckle burner.
I say bring back the days of Lee Iacocca when he told Mopar engineers to make routine maintenance items easily accessible.
I’ve worked as an engineer in the car, motorcycle, and powersports industries, and every single engineer I worked with worked on their own vehicles. As such, we all paid attention to maintenance difficulties. There are many other factors that come into play (finance guys telling you the vehicle cost is too high, marketing guys telling you there need to be more features, customers telling you it’s not fast enough, etc.) to focus blame on the engineer. Blame is hard to focus, but it starts in upper management and trickles down.
