It makes a ton of sense if your goal is to "Soak The Rich".

Or to at least appear like that is what you're doing.

Although I'm absolutely sure that all the millions made from insider trading by politicians will somehow be exempt.

The Progressives are collectivists that see themselves as smarter and better bread than the rest of us. They invented classism and racism. They see a common education/life view (the group think) as a holy belief. They are ordained to lead, to be rich, to have luxury and to be revered/worshiped. This has been around as long as civilizations have been around. From Egypt to Hitler.

Having a class independent of their wisdom isn't acceptable in their world. This, like everything else they are doing, is to create dependency and expand control. If you are independent, have private property and the ability to live outside their system you are squarely the enemy. Tear apart any culture that isn't focused on them, remove any ability to be independent... and by any means. Destroy the biological bonds that are innate in our structures and replace them with artificial ones that only allow bonds to them.

Remember that the elites have been looking to rid the world of all but around 900M people OPENLY since the late 1960's. The eugenics movement goes back to the late 1700's in this country. All you have to do is look up and understand who the Club of Rome was/is. Read what they have openly said. We see memes of what Klaus and the WEF says about 2030 and laugh or otherwise blow it off. This is part of it... you don't own that unrealized gain in their minds... they created it for you and you don't need all of it now... in 6 years you don't need any of it. Remember Obama's declaration that "you didn't build that"?

The problem comes as some years are good and some are bad.

One year your house/investments go up and then they tax that. Next year it fluctuates down so you take a loss. And so on.

Gains are gains. Eventually you have to sell you house (which is the ultimate goal) to pay the taxes. Actually the goal is to remove capital from the capitalist system by taxing people out of the markets.

Unrealized gains would mean you aren’t selling which that value can change direction after you’ve paid your taxes on it.

It’s paying taxes on a potential profit.
