Yep totally. The first gen with GM was the last good gen of Saab IMO. Then it was a downhill trip to the dump from there.
You know they were done for when they teamed up with Subaru
I bought a nice 6 pack (mmm Melvin's) for the machinist when he lathed my clamshell puller. He doesn't drink, neither do I. So I had to sit and pour all 6 down the drain

What you're saying is true , however when Saab was building a sports car with a 65 h.p. V-4 Ford engine with a 0-62 m.p.h of 13 seconds , one has to wonder how much of a premium they would command .

Just going off memory here, but I believe SAAB was floundering then and that was also around the time other large manufacturers were scooping up smaller brands. Ford had Range Rover and Jaguar and also a partnership with Mazda around the same time. Also, Mercedes got Chrysler, the Chinese bought Volvo...
Ford also had Aston Martin and Volvo at some point. They dumped them all to survive the downturn.
