Anybody up for a random meme dump?

OK, I’ll bite…

Sigh...

I know why Trump was wearing military uniform in that photo

I don't think you did based on your previous post, but someone here informed you after. And it is not a military uniform, it's a private military academy uniform (a college prep school), big difference where I come from.

The question is, why was that photo chosen for that meme?

As I didn't make the meme, I couldn't say for sure, though it might have had something to do with the photo of Obama being around the same age, so more of an "apples to apples" comparison, if I had to guess. Maybe you can still twist that into something nefarious. I don't see much in it, so let's move on...

The answer appears to be to contrast Trump - good American, ready to fight for his country - with Obama - hippie dope-head - and Michelle Obama - apparently transgender.

As a whole, seems like you folks across the pond really bought into the hype of Obama's nomination and election being the nearest thing to the second coming of Christ, plus he was "a cool black dude". Give me a break, that guy's whiter than me...and I'm a pasty bitch. I couldn't give two shits what color he is or what party backed him, my judgements are performance-based. He was no better than any other, some might say he was worse (and I'd be one of those). He did some serious damage while in office. And just so we're clear, I'm not a supporter of either party, in case you feel the need to cry bias. I don't play politics, it is the folly of useless humans and it gets fuck all done....I feel like the evidence is pretty obvious at this point. I would think if you were to look inward, you'll see the very same in your neck of the woods.

I don't recall anyone saying Trump is a good American or that he is ready to fight for his country. Maybe I missed that post, but honestly, I couldn't speak to either. He's a businessman and a politician, and I'd be grossly assuming to say more, so I won't.

I believe the main reason he got reelected is because the previous admin fucked up quite majorly on some rather serious fronts (things we'll all be suffering from for decades to come, long after that asshole's dead), Second, the other option was Kamala Harris, someone who can talk for 20 minutes and say absolutely nothing (because she has nothing to say), and literally wasn't qualified for the positions she held in the state of California previously. She was chosen because she's got ovaries and was multi-ethinic, the lib/dems are really big on ticking DEI boxes, regardless of qualifications (or lack thereof). For the record, I couldn't give a shit about either, she was worthless as a public servant, and if Biden had died in office, we would have been seriously fucked. Her leadership qualifications wouldn't get her a den mother position in the Scouts...and she could have ended up as president. That's a scary prospect, even now.

As for Michelle, couldn't give a shit. She wasn't elected and I paid no attention to anything she said or did...which is about how any partner of any president should be considered (as in "not").

But we all know that Trump was ‘unable’ to fulfil his military commitment.

Really? You speak as if you have factual information, as opposed to heresay. And you say it with a bit of "stank", which would indicating bias. Regardless, I'm not aware of the specifics, and I live here. Maybe you heard something and it fit your narrative of who and what he is, I don't know. What I can tell you is that many were exempted from the draft during Viet Nam, and for any number of reasons. Did wealth and/or connection to serving politicians have an affect for some? I'd bet on that horse, but that is nothing new. My old man was just out of school, working construction in '64, so young and relatively physically fit. But he was rejected by the draft board on the basis of him having completely flat feet. It happened.

That makes the use of the photo (which you admit is actually of Trump as a minor, with no call-up liability) insulting to those who have, in fact, served their country - many of whom I believe hang around on this forum.

I didn't admit anything, but a quick internet search would seem to indicate that photo is from his time at NYMA, as stated by others...so the oldest he would have been was 18, legally an adult in the US, and eligible. Again, private military academy, not the military, you are making connections that do not exist.

insulting to those who have, in fact, served their country

An assumption on your part. Strangely, I think you'll find a lot of folks in the military family would and did support him over the alternative. The lesser of the evils is unfortunate, but a very real thing.

’that meme offensive to serving US personnel’

Insulting and offensive. It's a fucking meme, and "NO", I don't imagine it is for a number of reasons. The first of which is that I don't think we'd have much of a fighting force if we were that thin-skinned. If you're easily offended, I don't think you last very long in any branch of the US military, and for good fucking reason. I'd wager not even a week of basic - especially if you chose the Marines. If you don't have "hair on your nuts" when you enlist, you'll likely be sporting a Jackson 5 afro on your sack when they're done with you...or you'll shrivel and vanish. May well be different where you live. Hopefully you won't think me racist for using the word "afro", sorry, but it just feels like your level to do so.

Are we done now? 🤨

In keeping with this thread, a random meme:

If they could only leave the piggy bank alone they wouldn't need to borrow money from current depositors to pay the old depositors... But NOOOOO "oh look... there's some money just sitting there accruing interest..." "Let's borrow that money, put an IOU in it's place so it accrues less than half of what it could have, then when it comes time to pay that IOU, we'll just borrow more money from something else to pay it to the ones who put it there in the first place"...

Paul meet Peter... Sincerely the US Government.
I heard a while back they were eyeballing IRA accounts as well.

I grew up with Dad’s “self vulcanizing patches” that were a diamond shaped piece of rubber on the bottom of a metal tray with some sort of pyrotechnic material. There was a clamp to press the patch onto the inner tube, then you lit the stuff in the tray and it melted the rubber onto the inner tube. I suspect this was something from the old days when car tires had inner tubes? Anyway, that might have been what led me into pyromania, uh I mean chemistry, at a young age. Yeah, chemistry.

Sincerely thanks for the feedback. I try to convey information accurately and do not always agree with the “formally approved” grammar.

If'n I recall rightly, what you are describing was called "hot patching" where the glue was actually activated by lighting the top part of a patch on fire... it aided in the vulcanizing of the rubber..

I heard a while back they were eyeballing IRA accounts as well.
Since they are private savings the can't directly tap into IRAs, but....

I wouldn't put it past the legislature to try to pull this kind of shit...
  • Mandatory Government Bonds: Congress could pass a bill requiring all IRAs to hold a certain percentage of their portfolio in U.S. Treasury bonds. While you would still own the asset, the government would successfully force your private capital to fund federal debt.
  • Aggressive Tax Rate Hikes: If Congress needs cash, they can simply raise federal income tax brackets. When you withdraw money from a Traditional IRA, a massive chunk would go straight to the government via taxes.
  • Forced RMD Accelerations: Lawmakers can lower the age for Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) or eliminate tax-free stretching for inherited IRAs, forcing you to pull money out faster so the government can tax it immediately.
  • Wealth Taxes or Asset Caps: Future bills could place a cap on maximum retirement account sizes or levy a penalty tax on accounts holding balances over a certain threshold (e.g., $3 million or $5 million).

Good old Washington state.

The “watch for falling cows” road sign is most famously associated with Washington State, where it was placed after a real 2007 incident in which a 600‑pound cow fell about 200 feet off a cliff on State Route 150 near Manson, landing on a minivan Cowboy State Daily+1.

The sign is located on the lakeside of SR 150 between Chelan and Manson, near Lake Chelan, and faces the highway at a 90‑degree angle from normal signs Roadside America. It commemorates the event and serves as a cautionary reminder to drivers in that area.

My dad had one hot patch in his tool collection I remember when I was probably ten years old. All these years I didn’t know what it was! Now I know. Wow
