Current Atlas Wait Thread

I have a 6-speed. No TCM. LED's are just visual. According to the FSM's connector C2, pin 11 is the 12v signal for the 4wd light, whether SE, Sport, Sahara, or Rubicon... However, I found the FSM wrong for the Rubicon... I have no pin 11 at C2 to the cluster which leads me to believe the 4wd signal for TJ Rubicons are bused. The Pollak switch supplied by AA is just a N/O switch. so I ran 12v through a relay, to the switch thus visual illumination inside the cab.

I take it you're eventually going to do a 3.6L & W5A580 JK swap? If so, all T-cases in the JK's use a similar 4wd switch based on resistance (similar to TJ Rubicons. AA sells a "JK control module" but I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling, after talking with them, whether or not a TJ PCM would react positively.

Trying to just pluck the 5speed jk auto and mate to 4.0. The W5A580 is fully computer controlled and needs to know when the TC is is Low (front or rear). I don't think theres a way to annunciate Low in all cases on an Atlas. The guy at AA couldn't really describe what the sensors were doing exactly on the Atlas. I put the "4wd" sensor on the front shifter, i'm not sure if it illuminates in Hi and Lo, do you know? For the sensor mounted on the rear selector does it change state in Lo only? I think a logic board could be used to say if rear switch is off (not in low) but front switch is on then Mode = Low (since there is no front high) and if rear is in low then mode = low and that could be a potential solution for my TCM.

I saw they have the JK setup but it looked like a major clap trap. All the new TCM will need to know is its in Lo so i was thinking to do a switch instead of your LED that i flip when im in Low and call it good. WOuld just need to make sure the TCM won't freak out if I forget to flip it once. It's a problem for future Boom to deal with.

The rear axle shift rail closes the switch in Low and Neutral... Not sure why in Neutral?!... Front axle shift rail closes the other switch in low and high but not in Neutral...Like I said in my previous post... I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling talking with AA about the "JK control module.

I did not know the JK's TCM reacted with the T-case input.. However, the TJ 241 and all JK cases operate the same, in terms of case position and 4wd/low range switch position.... Based on resistance. The chart is the same for TJ 241's and the JK cases.

I tried to "re-create" resistance signals with various relays & resistors to trick the pcm but had no luck.. Finally gave up. Maybe this could help... Sorry if this is derailing the topic of installation..

That's perfect that the rear switch closes in neutral and low. That means the rear shaft switch is the only signal needed to tell the computer you are in Low speed. Future Booms problems are slightly less complicated.

It closes in neutral because front low can be done if rear is in neutral.

I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that. I didn't even bother wiring it so I get the 4wd light on the dash. I know when this thing is in 4wd.

I had my daughter break out her nail polish and make me some improved shift knobs, she did a great job!

It was useful to have the 4wd light on my np231. I had the 2 Low shuft kit and the detents are really vague actually needed to have the light to know I was in so it didn't pop out when I started driving.

I agree. However, my first time driving with it (minus feedback), I kept thinking I was in 4 high on the highway... Shifter position muscle memory was not learned...

I hear ya. For me it's really easy to know when I'm in 4H, I have an Aussie locker in the front. Once in 4H, she don't like turning as easily. My rig is just a trail and local driving rig. I also trailer it to the trails so I usually have her in 4L when I load up.

Also, if it's any help... AA sold me this kit with the purchase of my 2-speed...

https://www.advanceadapters.com/pro...er-tjjk-atlas-low-range-switch-kit-1997-2011/
It comes with a 62 ohm resistor. Not sure why... At that resistance, it's not indicative of the case being in low range....

Dang it, AA has a terrible search engine. I looked for the connectors on their site but couldn't find any. I think and hope those are delphi weather pack. I've ordered a pack of them off amazon and already have an extra sensor ready for when i need it.

PROCEDURE: Step 1: Soldering the new 62 Ohms resistance (Fig. 001). On The Dodge NP271 the two resistors will need to equal 110 Ohms. Also solder the 1100 Ohms (Needed on JK Rubicon Jeeps and all 2012 and newer JK’s) withresistor between the two 16 gauge wires. See diagram page 3.

They're delphi weatherpacks... AA charges a premium for their products, I guess.. I could not source the pollak 300364 switch elsewhere, though. Also, depending on the year of your Atlas, the female thread to house the switches changed sometime around 2014.

I would like to formally announce the Atlas wait thread for B00m is over. It is up to the next Atlas waiter to carry on or let it die. :)

I took a test drive yesterday and it appears to function correctly. Some info i learned from Blaine that will be useful for your test drive. This method will allow you to shift from a standstill. I struggled for a bit when i had both in neutral and couldnt get it back in gear until i learned the 2-handed shifting technique:
  1. Left hand on TC shifter, right hand on trans shifter.
  2. Left hand applies slight pressure into gear (lo or hi)
  3. Right hand go from N to R to D until it works.
  4. It will just pop right in almost not force.
I know shifting while rolling helps but I shifted into N while rolling then couldn't get it back into L or H while rolling and it stopped and i was hosered, till I tried the above.

Even in neutral the output of the trans still spins. I assume that's the culprit?
Not sure, even with engine off neutral, no output spinning i had to be spinning the case by hand while my wife shifted from cab.

So if a manual transmission would you put it a gear apply slight pressure on t case and slip the clutch? Or whole different animal?
Also, I did receive my receipt in the mail yesterday for my case. Won’t be long now!!🤪

Haha fair question. You got to get the gears aligned somehow so maybe just shifting into different gears will do it. I know on my Taco 6-speed i had to often shift into first then go to R to get stuff meshed.
