Ford 8.8 Swap

Um....Er.............

A lot on here will recommend against an 8.8 swap. I have one and wish I had spent the $ on a Dana 44. That being said, I found one for cheap'ish at the time and it works fine for me. If you are considering a tummy tuck or more than 2-3" of lift, I would skip the 8.8.

I have a 3” and not likely to go higher. This is my daily driver and I do trail riding and light rock crawling a couple weekends a month. I’ll likely never have the $ for a tummy tuck or 44.

You can install a Super 35 kit and be plenty strong for 33’s. What size tires are you running?

I have actually been thinking about building one of these to replace my 8.8 because of claimed clearance and weight benefits plus centering the driveshaft better which is big for me because tummy tuck.

Is $200 a good price for a complete 2003 Ford 8.8 rearend with disc brakes out of an Explorer Sport Trac?

The price is decent for a stock explorer axle, but the larger cost is in fitting it under a TJ. Unless you are building it yourself, or have a good buddy with the skills/knowledge/tools/place to build it, the numbers favor a Super 35... or finding a great deal on a 44 🦄🦄🦄
