Found the solution to my check engine light problem

For those of you who have follow my post about absolutely no engine light when I turn switch to on. I found my problem. I pulled my instrument cluster and found a piece of black electrical tape covering the light on the back side of the check engine light symbol. Still show codes: P0032, P0038, P0052, P0058. All oxygen sensor related. Not happy about it but I'm not searching for cut wire or computer problem. Looks as if at lease two sensors are relatively new. Maybe more. Possibly someone gave up trying to fine problem and decided to sell it to a sucker. Still love the Jeep. Be ware!

If any Ideas about oxygen sensor codes let me know. I'm not sure that it's the sensors.

Get the wiring diagram and use a multi-meter to check continuity on the wires between each sensor and the PCM.

My used TJ came with multiple intermittent O2 sensor codes that the previous owner confirmed were not fixed by new O2 sensors. It turned out to be a bad pre-catalytic converter or two. One finally crapped out and clogged the main catalytic converter. Once all three cats were replaced there were no more O2 sensor codes.

I just found the problems with my O2 sensor heater codes. There was no fuse in the PCM for them. Lol. Put a 15A inn and so far, all is good.

It could also be an issue with the brand of sensors that were replaced, our jeeps are very fussy and seem to only like the NTK sensors.

I replaced my bank 1, sensor 2 last May with an NGK. My check engine light is back on and I got a P0137 code for the same sensor. Your post about a bad pre-cat converter has me concerned. Not sure what I can/should do other than replace the sensor again and hope for the best. Any suggestions?

Check your fuses in the power distribution box next to the battery, one of the small fuses is for the O2 sensor heating element, I think it is fuse 16.

Hey gang,
Are these things pick on fuel caps? Found two spares under the seat, also getting codes for "minor evaporative system leak" and also " gross evaporative system leak" some times one, sometimes the other, sometimes the light goes away. Being this is not my DD having a hard time keeping track of what's setting it off so looking for ideas. Sorry read this post and reminded me of it.

Fuse is good.

What’s interesting is that if you look at the “I/M Monitor Staus” on the top of the screen the “HTR” is flashing red. Maybe something is going on with the heating element like you suggested?

I also had this whole drama.... Mine looked like the photo below.... Took it to a really hi tech tuning place and they unchecked a couple of boxes on the laptop connected to my car and yay problem solved....

Did unchecking those boxes actually fix the problem or did that just tell the computer to ignore it?

I have this EXACT issue and same EXACT codes with my 06 LJ 6sp. Still trying to figure it out. Replaced my battery, PCM, all 4 O2 sensors, and spark plugs (they needed it anyway). No fuse issue. Haven’t been able to pass NJ inspections for a year now. Thought it might be the pre-cats but temps look fine. Still runs high on MPG. Looking to replace gas cap, then gonna have to see about what these “checked boxes” are that should be unchecked. Any idea which ones they were??

This did not fix anything. As Jerry Bransford suggested, it only told the computer to ignore the error. Take his advice and check for clogged cats.

As a short term, I just need the codes ignored and I/Ms to cycle to pass NJ inspection. Not that I don’t want to fix it, but I’m tired of tickets bc it’s been rejected.

I fixed on oxygen sensor code by tightening the 4 bolts at the cats on my 06 ... weren’t real loose either . Any fresh cool air pulled in messes with the readings.
