GATORB8 LJ Build

Finished up the shocks up front and started cleaning and assembling the Barnes tank. Did a new Delphi pump.

Welp, I guess my timeline wasn't challenging enough. I unstrapped the tank from the trans jack 2" below the studs, and it slid off. Luckily my thumb caught it.

Now I get to try to finish with one opposable thumb.

That's two digits raised — pretty sure the gas tank thinks you're giving it a peace sign to mend fences after your recent altercation....

Tank looks great installed! Rear of the Jeep has really come together quickly!

Wish you a speedy recovery!

Thanks, waiting on the orthopedic referral. I guess we’ll see if I show up to EJS in a cast.

Early vs late lower steering shafts. Swapping to the early so I don’t have to collapse the shaft to fit the PSC box.

Hydro assist is on my longer list

I have a 2005. Steering shaft probably due for replace or maintenance.

Because of that, question: can you explain this post a little more about why you're going to the older shaft?

From my understanding, the newer shaft will work, but it’s too long (obvious from my picture). It is setup to compress in an accident, so you can basically force it into crash mode by blowing out the pin that holds the length and telescoping it down, which makes it the correct length for the Saginaw style PSC box.

I can’t remember if it’s from my emails with Mr Blaine, or just posts on here, but the compressed late style shaft tends to start failing and impacting steering performance after a while. I figured I may as well replace it since it was looking a tad rough. This is the Crown replacement, there’s a cheaper one on RA that had worse reviews.

From what I'm seeing in the picture that older style steering shaft has the collapsible feature right ?
I also got a PSC Setup that's been on my shelf for 2 years (just a the steering box&pump) and I remember avoiding doing that since there was missing pieces I needed
Anything else I should know apart from the older style steering shaft that's needed ?

Yes, but it should be left intact (which is probably a good thing if I get in an accident). From the look of it, you have to use up the whole collapse for the newer style to work.

Which pump do you have? The full on PSC pump has to have a remote reservoir, but they sell kind of a middle ground version that has a built in one.

I've got the BMB cooler to go in the system as well. You can step up to the -8 hose to the reservoir with his kit, but you want to get the Full Hydro version of the remote reservoir that can accept it.

The PSC box uses a different line set than stock for the pressure line from the pump to the box, so make sure you got that. IIRC the part number is something like HK2000.

Good to know,
I have the unit with the built in reservoir,
And the box I have has the provisions for a hydro assist ram,In which I'd need the HP pump from psc for when I run hydro assist (which will be soon!)
But 1st I gotta finish the rear end of my Lj till I get to worrying about the front end!

Driveshafts measured up, I’ll order tomorrow.

Using Oliver’s in Winston Salem, Libby there is awesome, talked me right through everything and is going to back calculate from the case tag for the SYE.
