I'm Stroking It!

My head was the one prone to cracking so we ordered a new one a couple of weeks ago and Russ Pottenger is doing the valve job and assembling it then sending me his forged pistons and the rest so I can hit the machine shop here. But if my family wants more than crackers for Christmas it will probably be around February before I can get it all assembled. :(

I'm going to assume your single... Either that, or your wife is very forgiving :D

Well it begins with you guys coming over with any 3/16 sheet metal you have and helping me fab some fenders and body armor so I dont have to keep steeling highway signs!
I’ll pick some up along the way. Plenty of highway signs between you and me!

Very interesting thread ....
If money were no object, a GM '292' inline 6 would be going into mine.
At a listed weight of 561 lbs. dry, it would be a reasonable replacement for the 515 lb. Jeep 4.0L.
This would give you an 8 cubic inch gain per cylinder.
A large variety of speed equipment is available for the 'Stovebolt' motors.

Please keep us posted ..... :)

Ugh, been sick. Doctors said I had a sinus infection, took blood no infection, said it was allergies, poked me 31 times in the back, not alergic to anything, said they need to send me to a head specialist, I told them theyve told me that all my life so forget it. Ill post some updates now that Im getting back in the saddle.

Nice to hear from you again, and I hope you're feeling better!

I'm anticipating your build, particularly hearing what kind of numbers the finished engine puts down and how much the stroker engine ends up costing you.

Wow if its not one thing its been another. But finally installed the two LED antennas my SHG bought me for Christmas. And put in a 20 watt amp for the PA.... yes it was well worth it! I can scare the raspberries outa kids walking home from school, old people walking outa Walmart and especially any highschoolers I see parking. Lmbo.

Also found I had a stripped thread for the front break caliper in the passenger knuckle? So I only had one bolt holding it secure, drove it that way quite awhile. Did I mention that the driver back wheel cylinder had busted out the casting around the bleed screw so I had disconnected it and capped the brake line. Finally researched and found a heli coil kit, 35 bucks on Amazon.

Well my add, adhd, rdbd kicked in and a squirrel ran by, (you know they are still pissed at Lucky), and I drilled out the wrong thread! Imagine that. So I had a little extra practice at heli coiling!

This is where the casting broke off the wheel cylinder.

Also as soon as I get paid Im ordering a SYE. Im still researching on who to go with? Ive adjusted the diff angle 1 rotation at a time a thousand times front and rear from the same angle to degreeing in and out from there and still have a vibration when accelerating.
Which brings me to this point. Im running 36's and love them. I want 40's. So I know my dana 30,35 with 3.07's is lets say, not cutting it. Lol. So now I need to find out what its gonna take to put under it so I can still try to pop wheelies at the red light? Any suggestions? Oh and Im thinking I need to wait on the SYE intil I have the axels done so my driveline will be correct. And I am highway driving this more than wheeling so anyone with experience should I go with 4.88 or 5.13?

5.13’s especially if you want to go to an even bigger tire.
JB conversions makes a super short SYE that looks very nice. I think advanced adapters and others offer super short SYE’s too. Doing a super short SYE will give you an even longer driveshaft. The longer the ds the less likely it is to vibrate.

If you want to run 40 and make more power you are looking at one ton axles for sure. Don't bother with the 8.8 you will just end up blowing it up. A very very built 9" rear at least but better a 14 bolt or a sterling 10.5 (if it's coming with you front axle anyway) as to the front, again a built 9" would do but a Dana 60 is probably better. Even with your 36s making more power you will be pushing it on the 8.8. It may survive highway use but you can forget off roading. As to gearing get the right ones for the tires you plan to run, also keep in mind going from a 36 to a 40 will make the jeep far less streetable, not saying it can't be done but I have found it takes some of the enjoyment out of longer trips. It also takes a huge bite out of the fuel budget.

Id like to get 1 tons grom salvage and build them up, any suggestions on what to look for?

Well the 05+ Ford super duty stuff seems popular these days as the fronts are stupid strong. The 10.5 sterling is starting to see love from the aftermarket making them a good choice to match it with. (seeing as they usually can be gotten as a pair) if you don't get a pair then the gm 14 bolt is bomb proof you want to make sure you get the right one though as they come in several flavors. The 9.5" ring gear one is semi float so why bother. The 11.5" one has no aftermarket support and is a huge boat anchor. The 10.5" flavor seems to be the one to build, its full float, strong, and has tones of aftermarket support. I don't have a ton of build details on the tip of my brain though as I went to JK axles and I never finished my one ton research.
