James & The Sahara Build Thread

Damn dude, that blows. I would guess throw out bearing since it comes alive when pushing in the pedal. Being lifted will make it easier to climb under, so that's a bonus :D
I may have reached the end of my free time to be climbing under and learning stuff. My have to pass this along to someone who can get her back on the road within the next 2-3 days guaranteed. Still have many preplanned trips and visits I gotta make before my term starts again. I'd love to learn though, just not after taking 4 days off to get everything justtt right.

Can't help you outside of showing sympathy. Sorry to hear this went down today.
No worries. I've had a vehicle behave much worse than this. Timing isn't great, so I'll see what I have to do. I was curious how much life I had left in the Clutch, it seems a higher power have now indicated there is little left. Very glad this occurred near my house and not remotely in NC where I am most of the summer.

My boyfriend thinks it's the throw out bearing also. I hope it's an easy fix for you.
I appreciate his input! Regardless of what is actually wrong with it if the transmission is being pulled its nearly all the labor, it will be cost effective to replace the clutch and other wear components in there once its down. I'll followup with what I find out tomorrow.

Throw out bearing is my guess too. Not too bad a job to replace, would take about a weekend. Pull the skid, pull the DS, pull the transfer case, drop the tranny. Throw out bearing just slides into position on the input shaft. Change the clutch while you're in there. Clutch and pressure plate are held on with 6 bolts. Its really not a bad job to do.

I would love to learn how to do it on a Jeep but I just don't have the time to get her on the road. Really it comes down to I need her on the road this week. I need to find a shop that uses good components (Luk I believe) with a warranty and I'll be good to go.

Just an update, Jeep is in the shop getting the entire clutch serviced (All parts that can be serviced that can be). I contacted MetalCloak about the rear trackbar relocation bracket making sure it will work with my lift and stock trackbar. The rep I should with said absolutely not, contrary to whats on the website I shouldn't have been able to buy just the relocation bracket. Currently waiting to hear back from one of the MetalCloak managers to purchase the rear adjustable track bar without the bracket. Morris 4x4 got back with me about the front adjustable track bar and offered to send a free Currie shirt my way to eaze the inconvenience. Started getting some regear and locker quotes from some shops locally. More to come!

Did you happen to measure how far off center your rear axle is sitting without the relocation bracket? Wonder why their bracket won't work on a stock TB?

They said the bolt hole size on the relocation bracket is completely different than the bolt hole size of the TB. I didn't get an exact measurement but it was off a noticeable bit.

Why did the MC rep say the rear trackbar relocation bracket won't work with the stock TB when the website clearly says it will????

Edit: sorry! I read your post more closely. Still, I hope they fix the website
