James & The Sahara Build Thread

That soft top is sweet! Wish the one I bought was in that shape. I'm working on selling the windows and top now and will probably buy a bestop replacement top to put on my factory bows sometime in the future. Also that rack is sweet. Can't wait to see your Jeep up in the air and those new tires underneath!

Me too! Thank you!

Is that soft top Khaki color? Looks fantastic! Those Toyos are beef brah!
Yep! Its Khaki and looks the part! Waiting for it to stop raining here in Georgia ._.

So I will be starting the project officially on Wednesday now! Finalizing the remaining parts from Fastenal & waiting on a couple more components. Feeling quite confident with what I have to get done and glad to have access to some real quality tools in the shop! I have been working on getting my new spare mounted snugly and a new third brake light so I will more than likely share a photo of it tomorrow.

Posted pictures of the back window roll up straps in your other thread. Good luck on the build! My softtop is from a 97 as well and its pretty nice. It has a teeny tiny bit of flutter to it at highway speeds but not too bad.

With that Gobi rack, you look pretty setup for some overlanding shenanigans. Plans? Remind me, you are loosing those tube steps, yes?

Nice score on the top and great looking wheel/tire combo. Gonna be a good looking TJ when all done.
Thank you!

I appreciated that! Surprisingly there is not sag at all on this soft top. It is one of the best fitting soft top's I've ever had on a TJ.

The tube steps are going to be the last step of the install, the start of a new beginning. I'd love to overland, main goal at this point in the jeep is going to be to travel the states with an emphasis of hitting up all of the national parks. I enjoy nature more than the average Joe! Still going to need to find an appropriate sleeping arrangement with the jeep. I keep going back & forth from different options and won't know whats best till I start spending some time finding out what will work for me in the long run.

A RTT would make for a nice addition to that rack, but I'm sure you've considered that already. Being an older dude, I like being off the ground when sleeping.

Trust me thats in the works, going to try two other sleeping arrangements before I go all in on a roof top tent to make sure its exactly what I am wanting for long term sleeping.
It's looking great man! Can't wait to see it with the new tires and lift on! :)
Me too!
Hey James I'm actually in Atlanta right now for my little brothers basesball. He is playing in the perfect game. Weather has been all over the place.
Hope he's having a blast nevertheless! Atlanta quite a drive from VA!

Lol yea it was a hike not to bad of a drive though. His team is ranked second right now so hopefully they keep up the wins. On the rooftop tent definietly do some research, but I heard tepui is worth taking a look at. That's just down the grape vine. If anyone else has some insight on the quality or their fav brands maybe they could give you some brands to look at.

Yeah there's an Overland Club near me and they have nearly every tent on the market. Its really nice to see the pros and cons of each one.

Tempui's headquarters is in Santa Cruz, which is a 4 hr. drive for me. I have plans to haul Frankentrailer there and get outfitted with a tent and some customization for a annex for the dogs to sleep in.
That sounds wicked awesome! Let me know how you like their tents, they are in the top two for me ;).

Definietly let me know what you end up choosing if you decide to get one. I'm sure it will pop up on the thread though haha.
Of course!
