I have a stock 05 LJ auto on 33in w/ JK wheels. Has 0-2in rancho shocks (R5000x), and bumpers I don't care for. If I were to spend 4-5k on parts, where would you spend the money?

I'm in Florida but like trail rides, beach driving, and overnight camping. Do I splurge on a nicer 3-4in lift kit from metalcloak? 2inch coil lift? Bumpers and lockers? What direction would you go with that cash. I can do basic mods but not axle work or welding. Thanks

I think most of that comes down to what you really want and how it’ll be used. I think you should drive it more and you’ll see what you want from how you use it. If the lift or capability is lacking you’ll find out, but if it’s not an issue don’t throw away money at it. I can’t say if it were me because I use my jeep differently but I can do my best to recommend and explain differences of parts or designs once you do have a goal in mind.

For example, goals that we often get are normally around a desired tire size and other parts often fall into that goal. That’s also hard bc of budget you then have to prioritize parts over others which sometimes people have to remember somethings have to be done together making smaller budgets or smaller incremental budgets harder.

You have good shocks, a decent lift, and good tires. Make sure all maintenance is up to date. Does anything else bother you like a stereo that doesn’t work or seats that’s are uncomfortable? Soft top or hard top good? Is the overall condition on the jeep good?
If everything is good to go and you want outside upgrades only then I would look into a savvy control arms, rock jock 4in lift coils, rock jock bump stops and track bars and or armor such as bumpers and sliders. Best armor right now for tjs is @Fluxor.
There are alot of threads here about build plans for 33s which is very close to the same as a build for 35s so I would look into those.

Personally I would go with a gearing upgrade and lockers. That would help with the sand, mud and your 33s. Have you had clearance or performance issues while on the trail which would necessitate a lift? Lifting is not a simple process and leads to other expenses such a SYE, new drive shaft and adjustable track bars. People on this forum have no problem spending your money.

If it's a dedicated trail rig, I would want a top notch suspension. I with the the Savvy Mid Arm and have been very happy with it. Not sure if you can still get it though because the company was just sold and looks like they're not focusing much on TJ's anymore. I haven't followed what's the next best thing since I'm good with what I have.

If you're on 33's the OEM axles will be fine. Maybe just go with chromoly shafts if you're pounding on it. Lockers front and rear are one of the best investments you can make if you're doing harder trails. The correct gearing for your tires should also be a top priority.

Bumpers for me are the last thing I would spend money on. I've spent over $20K on mods and still have the original front bumper that it came with, that I've never liked the looks of. Though it's very functional, so just never gotten around to changing it out. For the rear, I have a Dirtworx. At the time, they used to be local to me. Inexpensive and I was able to pick it up from his house. No complaints. Once you have functionality, bumpers are mostly for looks.

I would run this with a Rancho Shock and upgrade later if I wanted. Add the correct amount of bump stops as well. I have purchased cheap only to purchase the better stuff later. Just start with the correct stuff. You would want to research Tummy Tucks before hand if doing the Savvy stuff.

Most important upgrade would be regearing to 5.13, which will use half your budget. Maybe install a lunchbox locker in the front Dana 30 and ZJ steering. Use the remaining cash for cosmetic mods.

Budget build.
If you're going to add lockers (with the gears), add chromoly shafts. At least in the front.
A (minimum) 2-3" lift will help with articulation and should not need an SYE or new control arms on an LJ.
ZJ steering upgrade.
You should be fine with the factory skids since you're wheeling in Florida.
Don't worry about bumpers till you trash the ones you have.
Quick disconnects are nice to have, but not necessary.
