Colorado Jeeptober 2026

Hey Krew Tamra and I are needing to escape the heat hear in Texas, we've been 100+ here since late July! We were able to get a cabin rental in Salida for the first weekend in October and would really like to join in on Jeeptober this year. Please count us in for the 3rd. Thanks

Thanks! I’ve got a hotel in Salida and good to go so long as the weather is conducive to a 10 hour trailer pull from AZ.

It's been years since I have been in Salida for any amount of time, but if you need a fast casual place to eat Mo's was really good. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5MAywtisqiY3FH7f7

If you're a beer guy (or your lady is into beer) - there's a couple local breweries that aren't bad and usually have food trucks.

Thanks Matt. I will be solo this time and likely looking to connect with any other hungry and thirsty folks after the run.

I need to confirm with my better half, but I think my 11 yro will join me and we will probably camp that night. Maybe we could tag on Grizzly Lake the next morning for anyone interested. I think it's a moderate trail with just one wall obstacle.

I am tempted but may be a game time decision.

Is there a good place to park a truck and trailer near the trailhead? Better yet, any recommendation on a hotel close by that I can stay at and leave said truck and trailer?

Motels in Buena Vista:

Lakeside Motel has parking but no A/C. Should be cooled off bt then
Best Western Vista Inn is the nicest one with plenty of parking.
Super 8 is a regular Ole Super 8. Not the best nor the worst. Plenty of parking.

If parking is an issue, no worries, I will find you parking. I have plenty at my house.

If there are other trails that you want to run, let me know, we can figure a few others out too. I'm off Friday through Sundays.

I was excited already but this group is stacking up! Going to be a good day. See if we can keep Mike right side up for a full day

Make sure to pack a big bag of smiles!

Thanks for the color on BV hotels and kind parking offer @BVJeep ! I am booked in Salida now but might pivot to BV depending on how the weekend shapes up. I am interested in a second day of wheeling on Sunday but unfamiliar with the area trails. Looks like @rasband is planning on running Grizzly Lake in post 53.

Welp, here we go. Jeeptober has been a great end of season run for a lot of us. I don't want to see this tradition die, so LET'S GET IT ON!

WHEN: Saturday, October 3rd

WHERE: Chinaman Gulch, Buena Vista

Requirements are as follows:
  • 35" tires
  • At least one locker (preferrably two, it makes for a long day for everyone else when they spend time dragging you over obstacles if you don't have them)
  • Skids/armor if you don't like scrapes or dents. Skids/armor even if you do like scrapes and dents
  • Tools
  • Sense of humor
We used to post a second run (mild, but each year it has less interest- usually one, maybe two jeeps) So I'm not going to offer it this year. If others want one, post it up.

Meet at gun smoke at 8:30, air down depart for trail at 9.

Please post up if you plan on going and I'll update this first post.

STRONG MAYBE

I was considering very seriously, but I won't be able to make it work, Mike. I do very much want to get out there and wheel with you boys at some point.

This looks like it will be a great trip - sad I'm having to miss it.

I do think a Colorado TJ Fest would be a blast.

When you make it out we will need to make it bigger than Chinaman. You need to hit holy Cross, 21 road, Blanca, and maybe the San Juans
