The only thing I am worse at then stereos is painting.

Then you are lucky... All I did yesterday and today was prep and paint.

I was planning to, is that wrong?

Nope. Nothing wrong with going to the battery. There's a grommet you can poke through above the gas pedal. If you're wiring more junk a clean solution is to place a fuse block behind the dash and run a single wire to it (somebody posted how I did this). If you're only running the single amp, I'd just keep it simple and run it directly off the battery and fuse at the battery.

All that being said there is no way I am trusting a shop to do it. I will learn at least enough to get it done.

I think you'll be able to do it! The hardest part is going to be either wiring the adapter harness or wiring the sub. Crutchfield can guide you through both if you give them a call.

To wire the adapter harness they send you a pigtail that plugs into your Jeep side wiring harness and they'll send you a pigtail that plugs into your new radio. You'll need to match up wires based on what function they do and splice them together. I recommend crimping with a butt and heatshrinking (I think Crutchfield sells this style). Crutchfield also sells the adapter harness made to order for a fee.

Thanks! I like that battery terminal. I ordered everything from crutchfield and got all the install add ons and harness adapters.

Not overkill. A 200-400 Watt RMS amp should run 8 gauge.

Ok according to this link.

200 divided by .75 divided by 13.8 = 19.3 amps. Most sources say a good way to check your work is to check the fuse on the amp and see if it is close, it comes with a 15 amp fuse.

So using this chart

10ga is good for at least up to 22’ and most cars apparently need 13-16’ on average.

So looks like for this amp the 10ga kit I ordered should work.

10ga will work. But you are near the cutoff.

Ready to see all that fab work put to test in it’s natural habitat. How far are you from some nice rock gardens?

At the family cabin right now, so have 3 great trails real close.

Slick Rock Trail about 10 minutes
Deer Valley about 40 Minutes
Sourgrass 30 Minutes < Running this one tomorrow and am so excited to finally get this thing on the trail. Although it is looking like it’s gonna rain so it will be a little interesting.

Trail Review:

Went on Sourgrass Trail with about a dozen people from the forum it was really great to meet everyone and was an awesome day. Thank you again to @mrblaine For making this thing so enjoyable for my family. It was not a super hard trail but had a few obstacles to at least give me a taste of what’s it’s capable of. The ride on the trail really has to be felt to believed in my opinion. I think stable and sure footed are the best ways to describe it. I aired down to 8 psi, locked the hubs, and put the sway bar in soft mode. Then was just cruising. On regular sections of trail my wife and I just kept saying wow this thing rides nice. On obstacles when a tire would fall into a hole it was like it just lowered in it and then stayed there without rocking the Jeep around. We really noticed it with the back coming off ledges I was ready for a big “fall” and bounce and it was just like the rear tires lowered and we just drove down it. On the way out I was in the back of the group so really just got to enjoy it, going up big rocks it would just swallow them up and drive right up them. That’s actually a good way to describe it with the steering kit, and the way it handled everything I would normally describe going over big rocks on the trail as climbing or coming down off etc. with this thing I would describe it as just driving over them because there is simply no drama.

I am excited to do slickrock which is a trail I am most familiar with and has some more steep climbs.

Here is a video of me going through the water crossing where I almost made a big mistake by not taking a wide enough line around the rock. I was unfamiliar with water crossing mixed with obstacles and felt like I should have went much easier through it and chose a line that took into account the possibility of falling into holes etc. Luckily I just ended up with some scratches on the flare. It’s always the first scratch that hurts the most.
