New shock recommendations?

I'd go with OME. Really, really great springs, and a fantastic ride. I've used them and LOVE them.

Yep, you really can't beat OME for the money. I had their suspension on my old Cherokee XJ and loved it.

Go with the Bilstein 5100 shocks, I love them. Pair them with some nice springs (i.e. OME or Currie) and you'll be a happy camper.

I'm not planning to lift, and it appears that neither of those are availble in stock lengths? I also am not sure 5100s come in a proper length for a non lifted application. The yellow 4600s seem to available for stock height. Please

Sounds right to me. In that case the yellow 4600s would be perfect.

Heya, I actually have the 5100's in stock height (essentially). They are the same as the stock Rubicon shocks (So I'm told), so 1" or less height bump.
I didn't notice any difference, but I also replaced the springs at the same time with some new stock height springs so I attributed any height change to non-sagging springs.

So far, I do like them offroad - I have now climbed them up several mountains on this trip to Colorado, and they have worked nicely. My jeep seems a little stiff on the road, but I honestly think that is the spring choice (I had to go with Moog as they were the only thing available in stock height at the time I needed them. I plan on replacing them, but keeping the 5100's.

I had OME on my 97, and loved them - and have ridden in a friends rig that had the Rancho rs5000x and they seemed really good as well.

I'm personally not a fan of Bilstein's 5100, I think it's unnecessarily too stiff and jittery on the street. I'm a big fan of Old Man Emu's Nitrocharger which I had until recently, but I have come to love my current set of Rancho RS5000x shocks that are so good that I don't miss my OMEs like I thought I would. Good street ride but amazing offroad control on terrain many shocks would make you slow way down on. Fox 2.0 is good, Savvy's specially tuned Fox shocks are absolutely amazing.... best ride I've ever felt from a shock but they're not cheap. Rancho's RS9000x is a tried and proven shock that has 9 different stiffness settings. Avoid shocks like Rancho's older RS5000, ProComp ES-3000 or ES-9000, Rough Country, and Skyjacker's Nitro... those are all way too stiff for a Jeep.

Appreciate your advice. Getting the Rancho RS5000x. Though about doing a lift kit and gonna wait for now. Mainly a light trail vehicle and poker runner. I want to make it look tough/mean w/o lift kit for now. Any suggestions? Are the shock boots necessary?

I personally like using shock boots because they keep road salt off and prevent rusting. I have pictures on here somewhere with my old rusted up bilsteins that had zero corrosion under the boots.

Do not use shock boots. They hold in more dirt and grime than they protect you from. I have never ran them. I have seen plenty of seals destroyed from using them though. For a more agressive look and no lift, get some highline fenders, more offset wheels to push the out a little and taller tires. Depending on your current age of springs, you could add a small amount of sapcer to compensate for sagging and get you back to factory height. That and the fender kit/trimming would be nice.
