So we go down to this little lake and these guys are down fishing in a little secluded area

Enjoying their morning catching fish and having a good time

He walks down there between them and starts talking and casting into their water and asking questions- And when I say asking questions think of the show Colombo-

His phone rings and he answers a Robo call then laughed really loud and tells them “ I get these all the time”

Yes John everybody does they just don’t answer the phone


It was like a Saturday night live skit. I was thinking about just wading out into the water and drowning myself.

Once he found something disconnected in an attic and told the electrician

Three weeks later he goes to the electricians office and reminds him that they made a mistake and want to make sure they took care of it

Has a real big thing about pointing out anybody else’s mistake

Almost like Kevin Nealon on Saturday night live doing the Bob Waltman specials-Nobody gets closer

He would get people to cry then look at the camera and smirk

Everybody has to learn them. They're not instinctual.

You may be right, I honestly don't know. But we don't learn them easily or well. Its taken me a lifetime, and I still don't get it all the time - plus I'm "mild" by comparison. *shrug*

To be honest - this forum has actually helped me in this area quite a bit.

You know I was thinking about what you said earlier. You nailed it about the questions on top of questions these guys ask. On the other hand I have seen only one thing worse- when they don’t ask any. You are in for a shock about every time.

My and this guy were talking about some cabinets and the trim on them- I told him the crown comes down on them. He thought I meant the crown above them around the kitchen.

Recently in church he was texting someone during a song- the song ended and everyone sat down….except him. He kept right on standing and texting. What a spectacle.

This man would not last on my crew. Who the F taught him it’s his job to go to another trades office. Actually I’m an electrician and I can guarantee you he would get smacked in the face like a child by me if that was us. Bro thanks for pointing it out to me and I’ll take care of it. But a 60 yr old helper with a mouth needs to be put in his place. As one of my electricians if he pulled that shit on another trade his ass would be looking for work elsewhere.

My cousin works for US Steel and I always thought that was a place where a union is still relevant.

On the other hand, don't get me started on that predatory grocery store union I was part of for Safeway. No reason for it to exist.

A grocery store union came in and tried to unionize the manufacturing plant I worked at in Pueblo. Ultimately it failed, but it was serious enough that corporate sent out the "union busters" to talk to everybody and train the office employees on what we were and weren't allowed to say. The plant manager got canned for letting it get that far and they made some changes but the biggest complaint people had was pay, and with even a little critical thought it was obvious they weren't underpaid. The main comparison used in the argument was places like the chemical plant and the steel mill...I dare someone to trade that well lit, clean, conditioned, weekday 40 hour/wk, ergonomic and safety-first environment to go get a few dollars more for sweating through a night shift in a fire retardant jumpsuit, breathing aerosolized mill scale and never getting far enough from glowing hot steel that you can't feel the heat. Yeah, you'd have to pay me more to work in Mordor than The Shire.

WTF is he even bringing the damn thing into CHURCH, of all places? I don't allow them in my sacred space - and there are plenty of other places/situations where they either shouldn't be allowed period, or should stay in one's purse/pocket at all times. Fucking things.

The reason churches exist is people are looking for a message- and it ain’t from a phone.

His level of obliviousness is unbelievable.

Everything on the job is a big set of questions even if it’s as simple as taking 2 cabinets apart

He worries about what he doesn’t need to be worried about and doesn’t pay attention to the young helper that is not wearing gloves that we had to end up sending to the hospital because he got cut.

All this said he’s actually a very diligent aggressive worker he’s just a pain in the butt to manage

I have a friend who loves his Shelby Mustang like I do my jeeps- He runs a very, very well ran commercial construction company and I lean on him for advice a lot.

Every time we deal with the bull crap we just text each other “ shelbys and jeeps”.

It’s a reminder that we are getting something out of it all.

This was my guy , highly skilled and did beautiful work. However , it doesn't matter when a project take 4 times what it should. I tried to give him a lot of grace , and would figure in 2X the time on his projects . But it didn't matter due to all the side tracks he would get on. After he was fired I was In a total jam being down two guys and having to support 24/7 emergency coverage and snow removal . But a giant stress was removed from my mind and well being .
The 800lb. gorilla in the room is you also go to church with this guy ,and that adds about a million other pressures to you , from people not qualified to have an opinion on this . I will pray for guidance for you and him.

The followup questions may very well be a coping mechanism he's consciously developed with an awareness that he's not as good as most people at interpreting what he's told. They say 90% of communication is nonverbal so everything you say he's only working with 10% of what "neurotypicals" are getting.

I wouldn't unless 95% of folks I deal with are also on the spectrum.
I've had hour long conversations with dozens of folks where every other response from me should have been "asked and answered". Instead, I just turn into a bigger dick than normal.

Are you going to install them on the rig? No, I'm going to roll them out front and use them as high dollar flower planters.

I reinforced your tub rails because I watched someone in JV back the corner into a rock, fold up the wheel well and it pretty much ruined the rig.

Did they have reinforced tub rails? Yes, because I am so fond of doing useless things that take lots of time and effort to figure out that I decided to waste that effort on something that doesn't work.

Do you have an open end 8mm wrench? Yes I do.

Multiply that x 100's and that's how my conversations go with most folks.

Sounds about right. The union was great for the reps (they sat around doing nothing and bitched about grieving you if you said anything) and did worse than nothing for anyone else.

Friend there just picked up a summer job between high school/summer. Ended up owing the union money when she left for her annual dues. Scummy. Just was a deli clerk for a few months.
