Oxygen Sensor Heater Issue (Can't Pass Smog)

My ‘04 is having the same issue, so as far as I know there is no TSB solution or “pass” from california DMV/smog.

I’m now several thousand miles into this and OBD scanner still flashes as “not ready”…which confusing to me. If the 02 sensors were in fact faulty, wouldnt I actuall get a code after this many miles?

Not sure what path to take: replace all 02 sensors, or replace PCM or….?

For me, there was a short on some wires that had melted from the heat to my pcm and fried it started throwing out fake codes.I had the mechanics fix the wires and replaced the pcm myself. I Replaced the pcm with one from Wranglerfix.Com and my tj drove better and sounded better instantly. Only thing is that the pcm cost me $1000 🥲

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair is aware of this issue (manufacturer design defect) and allows the vehicle to pass with the O2 heater rediness monitor not set. Show your SMOG guy the link. My SMOG guy said that the issue was noted in his computer.

The TSB is a relatively easy fix. It's basic wiring modification. The hardest part is pulling up the PDC (fuse box). No, you don't have to complete the TSB to pass SMOG. The defect doesn't hurt anything performance-wise.

THANK YOU.... The Smog guy told me to drive around some more to get it ready. I'm heading there now for the second time, I'm glad I have this info in hand. All forum contributors are very much appreciated.

Nope. That one you'll have to actually resolve. I would start a new thread for it.

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler and the battery died. It’s never been registered in California shipped it here from North Carolina and I’ve had it at three different dealerships checking it and they’ve said nothing wrong with it. I’ve also driven it over 3000 miles and it still won’t reset the sensors. I called the smog guy who supposed to be able to give you a pass and they said that because it’s never been registered here they can’t do anything about it that I just can’t have the car here then I’ve been trying to get this the past smog for three years now and I’m just to the point that I’m about ready to light the damn thing on fire. Does anyone know what I can do to be able to get this tag so I can drive it

Welcome

Have you done the TSB 25-001-07 mod?
This thread may help.

If you're in the Riverside area, we can get it fixed.

Playlow80, let me know if you’re in SD area, I’d be glad to help (free of charge). I’m getting ready to do the bulletin fix on mine so I can get it smogged and get the family back on the trails. Hit me up if you need assistance.

I took miy 2005 LJ in for smog and they said needed to do heat cycles after replacing a dead battery. Drove several hundred miles and multiple heat cycles with no luck. The link on the previous page for the CA BAR is no longer valid. Does that mean the smog stations no longer have the waiver in their system and I have to do the bulletin fix? I am planning on doing it regardless, but was hoping to get my stickers sooner than later.
