Did them 2 weeks ago with new front bearings.
Could really be diff related then.

Have you tried pulling driveshafts to see if the noise follows front/rear? You listed that you just changed diff fluid... was that before or after the noise started? How did the spider gears look?
The noise is absolutely from the rear, no questions asked there. I've had my head down there when it goes by, it's not forward of the TC.
Noise persisted both before and after diff fluid. Honestly it's been there since I bought it a year ago, so it has persisted across every single change I've made.
Re: spider gears, I think that's my next step. I didn't want to waste good gear oil, but short of just changing control arm bushings for fun I'm not sure what else I can accomplish here. Carrier inspection is probably the least intrusive thing I can do next. I've been doing a lot of reading today on the 44 TracLoc, I need to do a decent inspection of the spiders/clutch tabs/etc.

Have you ever cracked the case and checked for any loose pieces in there?
What diff fluid did you use?
I've been in there, and nothing came out in terms of loose pieces, but I didn't do an exhaustive search. I need to get back in there and look.
Whatever Jerry has said to use on this forum. I can check later when home. I think it's an 80w-90. I'm now wondering if I'm first on any griffin modifier for the TracLoc.....
I baited you a little on that question… sorry… Just wanted to see if you used friction modifier in that LSD. If it was chattering before, perhaps PO did not use it, and damaged the clutches…. What say you, mr TJ Guru @Jerry Bransford ?
Reading Truetrac literature says no modifier needed.
I hope I get this right.
I have a non-Rubicon Dana 44 so I believe I have the LSD that requires modifiers. I think a Truetrac is an aftermarket option.
The TruTrac is a gear driven LSD from Eaton. It does not require any modifier.
Whatever they called the factory clutch activated LSD does require a friction modifier. That assumes the clutch packs are still functioning.
I think the chatter noise you are getting it from the LSD… familiar sound, and especially since you said it happens more when turning…
@jjvw, do you have any knowledge on the Jeep LSD? Should he add some friction modifier? If the oil used has any modifier, it might not be enough… ?
Well, here's the sound;
This is a 155k mile 2004 with a 4.0, auto trans, and a Dana 44 rear. From the T/C back there is a new U-joint on the driveshaft, new axle bearings and seals, new calipers/pads/rotors, new parking brake shoes, fresh diff fluid, new pinion seal, new rear shocks, new rear sway bar end links.
As soon as I get any speed this sound goes away and it drives fine. But it's annoying as hell and happens at all forward and reverse starts once it's even slightly warmed up. I can leave the garage and it's fine, but by the time I drive it 10-15 minutes I get the creaks.
Any ideas? The Dana 44 doesn't rely on a correct preload, right? Just torque. What else am I missing here? Do I need to inspect gear teeth?
well here's a likely dumb thought but here goes..
I just did a rear disc brake conversion. I notice you replaced the parking brake shoes. That sound has the same pitch as the parking brake spring/tensioning mechanism that I recall when messing with the adjustment. Any chance something not right with that?
My son's 1998 Wrangler has this EXACT SOUND PROBLEM! We've been trying to track down the source and have begun replacing parts (also because they desperately needed replacing):
Driver Side Rear:
Upper and lower control arms
Stabilizer Links
Shocks
Passenger Side rear
Lower control arm (upper going in this weekend)
Stabilizer links
Shocks
Any insight into what this sound is would be HUGELY APPRECIATED!
