Rebuilt transmission not shifting out of first gear

Where the heck did you get that??? I need me one

Amazon i believe it’s labeled like a dirt bike lift or something but just because i have that, it helped me with so much, lowering and raising the gas tank for new fuel pump, t-case, shoot I’ve even used it to hold my rear bumper while I drill holes it’s great, I believe I payed 100$ maybe 150$ on amazon

Okay that will be my next test. I’ll leave the linkage removed and shift it by hand. And get more info on the rpm limit before it starts moving in both drive and reverse, The transmission was rebuilt because I found a very big amount of metal shavings in the pan and burnt smell of oil and and leaks from the bell housing, which may have just been a valve cover leak but either way I just know the jeeps old and I wanted it to have a fresh transmission so I can have a safe mind (y)

just pop the arm out of the bar and shift it all the way forward by hand....i'm pretty sure that's 2HI. Either way, 2HI, 4HI, 4LO, you should have zero problem climbing your inclined driveway. But if the problems are still there you may need to explain exactly what you get in better detail. Does it rev but not go anywhere? Or does it creep? Or does it only do something after a certain rpm level, that sort of thing.

And did you tell us why it was rebuilt in the first place? I may have missed that.

Hey so quick question I’m about to do the test. If I am looking at the t-case shifter bar on driver side. If my car is in 2hi is the lever all the way left/up or all the way right/down? If that makes sense 😂 @Christian.mers @hear

Along with a fan shroud add a real air filter if the K&N is still in there. No offence boss, but you have limited mechanical knowledge based off most your statements. I saw "piece of mind" on one of your responses. Thake the damn thing to a good mechanic and be done with your guessing games. BTW, the thought that the diff have been altered because you see RTV on the diff cover is well....more guessing. It/they need to be removed to do a simple fluid change.

And he calls it a "car" !

I try not to be a dick and we all gotta start somewhere, we all did. Go to school, take a class at night, joint a club of knowledgeable folks. But....you want reliability and economy, buy a corolla. Buying a modded jeep or modding a jeep for street use is like buying a fat tire mountain bike with a broken derailer and expecting to compete the Tour De France on it.

Honestly, I don't agree with this take. Isn't he trying to do exactly that by posting questions and learning? Sure he may have taken some initial odd steps, but he's here now. Nothing says a modded TJ can't be a daily, but you're just going to have to expect to take care of it...repairs instead of car payment. I don't commute with mine (because I'm like two non-Hermetian operators in a Hilbert Space; I don't commute), but I drive mine as much as I can, which often times is daily.

I’ve had it for a few years, it was a piece of junk so I never driven it. I’ve been building it for a few years and now I’m ready to daily it

With all due respect, what have you done to be "building it" if you only just found out you had a locker? I'm not trying to be a hater, but it might be a good time to assess where you are at technically. You're in the right place. There are a bunch of people here who are absolute experts on various sub-systems. If you want to get your hands dirty, you have the right vehicle and have found the right forum. If you don't want to get dirty, then maybe I do agree with Gilaguy23 after all.

Also, these spacers only exist to go between your skid and the frame, to lower the skid plate if you need it lowered to fix a driveline angle. The bolt heads themselves are chamfered to fit very nicely into the countersunk holes on the skid.

Let's worry about one thing at a time, but having them below your skid is doing nothing other than making it look like you're a real newb.

I just tried doing the test. The jeep won’t

hello gila guy, no offense taken. You’re repeating stuff that was answered already. And I’m on this thread to learn, not to be told to take it to a mechanic because I have limited knowledge and be done with it. I removed and installed this transmission myself and if there’s something I can learn, most people on here have been helping me. Thanks for your input. I’m sure you started somewhere when you got your first jeep didint you? I’m going to continue learning. 👍

That shit is so funny 😂 the skin plate used to have a drop kit with the one and a half inch bars on each side of the skid plate. I removed those because I got a slipyolk, the bolts were still really long so I had to add washers for now until I cut the bolts shorter I’ll prob do that today since you mentioned it. My transgender shop opens back up Monday, I have today and tomorrow to work on jeep to see if I can fix sluggish acceleration. It was getting late last night and I was in my driveway revving my jeep super loud just trying to backup the smallest inclined driveway😂, so I stopped.

I’m gonna share what the jeep looked like when I first got it

@hear I believe you can see the skid plate drop bars still on, on the old photos. I also just found out right now while I was taking those photos. Is that my rear track bar along with my rear track bar relocation mount that was never welded completely just came off. I really need it welder on because I’ve already bolted it down twice before it coming loose. Might do that today as well

@hear @Christian.mers I noticed this bottom cable that I circled in red. Has the smallest bit of slack in the line. When the top gets pulled, the bottom plastic will slide for the smallest amount before pulling even pulling the cable. Based off your knowledge, could this be causing my issue? I looks nice and tight but when pulled the bottom one travels a bit before pulling cable
