Question: What size ice chests do you all bring? I want to buy a new roto-molded cooler for the trip and I'm trying to decide what size would be good for my 36"X 31" cargo area. An Action Packer will be taking up have of that room for dry goods. Is a 52 qt. too big for 2 peeps?

26 qt. roto-molded cooler from Wally World.

I try to minimize foods that must be kept cold as much as I can which has allowed me to use a smaller cooler.

For 2 days yes but it may be a good size for down the line if you buy a rtt. Plenty of extra room for beer.

We do day trips, and sometimes bring the pup, so the smaller ones would be more versatile.

Its hot and we're dehydrated.

Yep....those you need to load in your rig "before" you put all your stuff (ice, food, drinks) in it.

I never have, usually in a hurry to get home once I’m on that side. Were you planning a day trip through Blackwood canyon when you camp in Tahoe?

Not really. My boss just mentioned it. They used to take that way out and said it was a nicer drive with a little wheeling mixed in, but I'm sure my co-pilot will be quite done with bouncing around after the trail, lol!

It’s a popular OHV route for the enduro beemer guys. I heard it’s got some fairly deep water on it still.
