Savvy off-road sold? (the unofficial Savvy customer support and Savvy rant thread)

Thanks, I'm not familiar with that discussion, so maybe this has all been covered before. Typically, the "proper" manufacturing process would be to anneal, shape and weld, and then heat treat.

Of course, you have to work withing your capabilities. The heat treatment process is slow but not that difficult. If @Fluxor wants to advance his capability I'd recommend getting an oven if the volume justifies it, or seeing if there's anyone local who can

I have annealed t6 to bend things with the wrong dies because that’s all we had and needed to build and test fit something.

The material cools extremely quick and as it cools it takes more tonnage to move. It can make getting repeatable bend angles very difficult.

Bending T6 with the suitable radius die and a mechanical connection to a replaceable rash guard seems like the sweet spot.

There is another issue regarding the forces at play. The rash guard wraps around the bottom edge of the bumper. They come close enough to the main tube crossmember to help with larger vertical drops where the weight slams down on that lower edge.

I would like to point out that I am not a metallurgy expert nor a free body diagram expert. However, I am curious about the design and would like to see it hands on or at least some rugged testing of it. I will still be supporting an independent @Fluxor over the company Savvy in this instance.

They defend it by claiming it is stronger but I am curious as to the need of it being stronger. If anybody running an old bumper can chime in with how they faired being abused, getting into the specifics mentioned in the above comments I posted: Did the rash guards get in the way? Is this new apparent bracing on the inside really better than the guards? Was 3/16" enough?

I'm also really curious as to the weight of the new bumper. I imagine one big 1/4" bumper is lighter than 3/16" bumper + 3/16" plate. Maybe not with the new internal bracing?

Again, we can get into theoreticals, but I'm way more intrigued to the actual use and abuse of both.

I see a couple minor blemishes on the bumper in the post, but no real signs of heavy use.

I don't see a way to add reinforcement to the corners as they mention without giving up clearance or encroaching on the already tight envelope for a sway bar.

They asked for name suggestions and I recommend "Back Ordered" as the name.
Next slide says they have stuff on order... Good time for any passive aggressive commitments to provide a name. 🤣

Best thing to come from this Savvy post (other than your excellent name recommendation) is to remind me that I haven't listed to Godsmack in a while and should put them on the playlist...

Otherwise, 😴

Posting up more discount codes that the web site won't accept. Cannot say I have ever gotten the site to take a code, even a code emailed to me from Sazzy. But they do have some discounter price on the control arms. 🫣
Seems that is the one of the few items that didn't get a price bump. Skid plates all took a jump in price in November.

I their mid arm upgrade kit worth buying or is there better option out there?

Can't speak for any other kit they have besides the TJs. Seems as though it is the best kit out there. I have no personal experience with it but looking at it compared to any "long-arm" I prefer it. There's plenty of people on this forum who run it. Mr. Blaine on this forum designed it to be a kit.

If you don't actually need the mid-arm then I wouldn't get it.

Depends on what you want from it and how much new Savvy screws it up with their disappointing redesigns and updates.

Nothing has changed on the midarm kit yet from what I can gather...

Key word being "yet"
