I'm Sage and I am from the PNW, and I am the happy owner of this pile. I purchased this 99 Sport mostly stock, at 18yo for way too much from a family member who had bought it new. Unfortunately I don't have any photos from then. I didn't even know what wheeling was just wanted a Jeep. Also I had no idea what was getting into... This all changed when I met some guys at my then, welding job who were way too into wheeling...I guess I picked up this up as well and have been wheeling with the same group for 12 years. This has been an on going project since then, and everything I have done has been gradual, so I could keep wheeling. Basic specs on the Jeep our as follows:
Engine 4.0
Trans 32rh
T-case Atlas 4 speed
Wheelbase 103"
Tire size 37" km3s
Lift 2.5"
Width 76"
Height 72.5"
First and last automatic tranny rebuild.
Have always wanted to stretch my wrangler but was undecided on which way I was going to go about it. Not sure if the route I went was advantageous or not, but I had access to a press brake and decided to do it my way. I was able to make sleeves and channels to match the frame dimensions and stretched the frame 9" in total. 6 in rear 3 in front. You don't see the addition of fish plates in the picture, but they were added. Stretching the frame the way I did allows me to keep my axel centered under the frame arches. Overall I didn't run into too many unforeseen issues and I am happy with results.
Custom bumper, spare tire carrier, and blank corner guards.
Honestly, this custom aluminum fuel cell I made was by far my favorite part of the project! It had been many years since I made something out of aluminum. Capacity came out to about 15gal, and uses stock Jeep pickup. No leaks and works like a charm.
New Rubber. 33s to 37s.
First trip out. Finished about 3am got a few hours of sleep and went out to find some snow.
Decided it was time for a cage...This is about 2 years after the stretch, as told by the worn paint...
Watching paint dry! design is bases on Poison Spyder cage, with a few differences.
Atlas 4 Speed 10:1, Tom Woods drive lines, and the start of a skid pan.
Rocks Rocks Rocks. Ignore the Dana 30 and short control arms lol. Got a plan, and most of the parts for 4 linked tons in the works. Maybe in another post...
