The good news thread

I don't recall the mortgage rate on Chez Fromage I other than it was an FHA loan and it ran $400+ a month. That was in 1978. Chez Fromage II, 1995, was somewhere around 7%, refinanced later at 5.25%. Kicked in what amounted to an extra months payment every year. Paid off in October of '19. Ten freaking days later, put in a bid on Chez Fromage III, and here we are. I was ten days mortgage free. I think the current rate is about 4.5%, but property taxes are the biggest chuck of the payment. Sold Chez Fromge II in March of '20, during the pandemic, and made a tidy profit. Monthly mortgage payments started at $400 in 79 and are currently around $2200.

#1 was an 850 sqft, two bed/1 bath ranch on a slab with an unattached 1.5 car garage on a city lot. #2 was a 2100 sqft 3 bed/2 bath with an attached 2 car and crawl space on a double lot. Current, and final Chez Fromage, is a 3000 sqft 4 bed/3 bath 2 story with full basement, attached 2 car and unattached 4 car on an acre. Both garages are heated. The mortgage payments went up proportionately.

I do remember a car loan in 1981 for a 1978 Chevy Malibu POS wagon at 23.25%. Took it in the rear twice on that car.

Didn't really know where to put this, but here we go.
Wife gave me my bday present today, to say I'm excited is an understatement. I have dreamed about doing things like this in a plane for as long as I can remember.

Did you know you're supposed to be able to breathe out of your nose?

I was a mouth breather for a long time. Probably since mid high school. Unless this was something I was born with? Deviated septum and cartilage blocking my sinuses (they called them turbinates) on both sides.

I got surgery for it, spent a week with these tubes jammed up my nostrils. Got them removed and stitches removed and I can breathe with my nose for the first time I can remember.

Now my RBF is way meaner looking and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my teeth and tongue. But wow this is nice already

You guys can breathe through your nostrils, as in both at the same time? I'm lucky if I get one, partial.

You should just tell people you got in a fight, and the other guy hasn't woken up yet... :D

I can now!! It's amazing. I had no idea what I was missing. No more suffocating while chewing, brushing teeth, etc

I'm a life long mouth breather as well. Very narrow nasal passages. Don't care.

Congrats!

You should fix it it's amazing

I probably should - but I'm 66 years old now, I just don't care. Been that way my entire life - most of the time I can't even breathe the tiniest amount through the nose as its clogged up. Even when I can, its not enough air, so the mouth it is... 20 years from now, it won't make any difference at all.

I didn't really realize how bad it was or that it wasn't normal either. Someone pointed it out to me

If you don't know, you don't know. I have "monocular vision", I see the world through my right eye, the left is only the peripheral view on that side. As a consequence, I'm told that my depth perception isn't normal. I have no way of knowing, other than I do know that I always had problems with Z-axis calculations. I can't catch something that's coming straight at me - couldn't hit the ball in baseball, etc, etc. If someone tosses me something underhand and it goes up, then comes down, I can catch it as it becomes an X-Y problem and the Z-axis is minimized.

It's a wonderful thing. I didn't have the surgery. I had what was basically a nasal colonoscopy. No anesthesia other than a numbing spray on the back of my throat. Thought I would hurl anyway. I don't recall what it actually did but I felt like I could suck the air out of the room when that tube was removed.

Glad it went well. Mrs. sab asked me earlier this week if I'd heard how the surgery went, and I said "he hasn't posted anything." And after two weeks off, this week at work was so crazy I didn't even think to reach out for an update. I just showed her the picture above. Her response: "Oh, my!" That looks like a PITN (Pain in the Nostrils)! :p

Glad you're on the mend and that the surgery made such a great difference for you!

It healed quickly! It's still healing but it doesn't hurt and operates well now! What I thought was post surgery pain was mostly the misery of the splints they put in so it heals open. Those felt like they came out from behind my eyeballs when he took them out!!

I've had at least 3 docs tell me I would benefit from the turbinate reduction and fixing my deviated septum. I generally breathe through my nose at rest but at any level of exertion that elevates my need for air and the mouth comes open. I also have been snoring more than I did when I was younger. I really got perspective on how bad it was when I tried breathe right strips and experienced how open it felt.

I've been putting it off hoping allergy shots would help but I'm two years in on those and though they've helped with the worst of the seasonal symptoms, I still have a baseline level of congestion that I'd like gone.

Might be worth it! Idk if you experience this too but the constant need to blow my nose seems to have gone away. That shit was annoying

Glad it's been such a game changer for you!

My Dad had some sort of nasal surgery many years ago for breathing issues. Must not have been the same thing. If I recall correctly, they rotorooted the actual bone structure? His recovery was very painful.

I have always mostly breathed through my mouth, too, but when I asked a Dr about it he pretty much poo-pooed it off.
Since I also snore horribly (according to my wife, if you want to believe that 😂) and I've often wondered if nasal surgery would help?

Maybe I need to ask a different Dr....

It does seem like there is a wide range of severity. I know someone else that had the same surgery and it wasn't full anaesthesia and the recovery was like nothing.

That sucks the doctor didn't take it seriously. When I got the CT scan and saw an ENT he was just like oh yep that probably sucks I bet you wake up with a dry mouth
