So driving my shitbox to work today with the intention of dropping it off at the mechanic after because of stalling.
Some unexplained traffic this morning, already giving me anxiety. Sure enough, I start stalling out in the #2 lane. Hazard lights are on, trying to coast off the freeway. Dumbass in the slow lane won't let me in and is honking at me for 'trying to cut him off'. Thanks dude! Now I'm stalled out in the #4 lane blocking traffic. Called AAA and waiting for a tow. Meanwhile at least two cars honked at me. Do you see the hazard lights? Do you think I like to just hang out on the freeway and block traffic? What is wrong with these people?
So one person redeemed some of my faith in humanity. Pulled over and offered to push me to the side.
Spoke with the tow truck driver. Said the call before me was a traffic accident and the car he towed was facing the wrong way on the freeway. When he picked it up, multiple police cars with lights on. He had to do a 3 point turn to get facing the right way. Said at least 3 cars were honking at him. WTF??

These kinds of things are why I go out of my way to be nice while driving, not a pushover - but not aggressive and inconsiderate either.

When I was stuck in traffic on the street today before getting on the freeway, there was someone trying to get out of a shopping center parking lot. Nobody letting her in. I let her in.
I've become much less of an ass over the decades (still a bit ass-ish, unfortunately.) Kindness and courtesy are important in every interaction we have with other beings. It's truly what separates us from animals! Of course, I still faulter every day. It takes a fair bit of effort to be nice and let things roll off your back...

Kindness is not without its problems. I live in a golf course neighborhood and the cart path crosses the roadway in several places. The golfers have a sign facing them that says "STOP, Yield". While I know a sign saying stop and yield is crazy but it at least should be obvious the cars have the right of way. Every day I see people in their car stopping to let the golf carts through, thinking they are being kind to the golfers but they never consider the 3-5 cars that have to stop behind them. And dont forget they are f ing up a system and waving the golf carts on when the carts are supposed to yield.

Yea - this brings to mind something that just grinds my gears: If you have the right of way - TAKE IT! Don't be "kind" and try to change the rules of the road unless its a traffic jam. All you're doing by being "kind" is creating confusion, slowing EVERYBODY down, and possibly causing or contributing to an accident. Especially those who are left turning into a street, and I'm wanting to left turn out. THEY have the right of way, don't wait for me 'cause I'm not moving. If I pull out like they want and there's an accident, its my fault. Idiots.
Agree with this. Plus, they're having fun playing golf, THEY CAN WAIT! I'm trying to get somewhere.
When I get the chance I will ask people who try to be kind but end up messing everything up. I will ask: "Do you stop at green lights and wave the other people on?" Because it's basically the same thing.
I like this - never thought of it that way, but you're right!
What about bicyclists? Around here they don’t stop for stop signs and we have them in packs that ride 3 abreast and hold up traffic. Yet I bet if they’re in their car and someone in front is holding them up they are pissed.
Don’t get me started on E-bikes and E-motorcycles. They do the same thing but run the stop signs doing wheelies doing 30+ mph. Mainly kids doing it. It’s getting to be a real problem in my neighborhood with gangs of kids speeding around. Just a matter of time before one gets hit by a car. Our City just passed an ordinance to enforce traffic laws on them with a $1000 fine.

Yea, we have that problem with E-bikes here as well. Never mind "salmons" and "ninjas". Yet if you hit one of these assholes, its your fault.
If they're going to ride 2 or 3 wide, they need to pay attention. I was up in Big Bear a few years ago (2 lane highway) and honked at a group. One of them gave me a dirty look, so I pulled up next to him and chewed him out a bit. Asked if he would like me to pull over so we can discuss it further.
Definitely a time I wish I had an upgraded LOUDER horn to scare the shit out of them.
Another pet peeve of mine is when they stop at the light and block the crosswalk.
Or they sit about 1 to 1-1/2 car lengths behind the limit line.
