And we're almost done with the entrance...wall edges, header board, stairs and risers next. Risers will be stone and the treads will be finished like the door.
The process:
The rocks are drawn onto the foam core board with a sharpies.
IMG-3072.jpg

The grout lines are carved out with an exacto knife in a "V" shape, these grout lines will grow with the heat process. Gouges and cuts create the rock effect after heating.
IMG-3071.jpg

Each intersection line corner is rounded then the panels are distressed.
Water and heat gun create the rock effect. Stone texture is accomplished by rolling a tin foil ball across the surface.
Before heat is applied

After heat and base coat applied. (notice the rounded edges of the intersecting stones, heat also hardens the foam).

After painting and dry brushing several layers in various shades.

After painting a dark wash is applied and settles into the deep crevices enhancing the depths.

Grab one of these Fuente ash trays for your lounge, these really are stunning pieces of art work & extra large too !!!
Thanks, but going with old, hand blown glass ashtrays like you would have found in France gentlemen's club during the cigar club hayday's in the 1920's, hence the "club chairs" and a Chesterfield couch coming.
There won't be any "cigar" ephemera at all except for tools/lighters and a coolidoor mounted in the wall.

Got the risers, treads and last few pieces of trim almost knocked out today, still gotta varnish the treads and paint the rock on the risers, but the tread's patina and (functional) wooden dowels are really gonna "pop" with varnish.
I'll get another update up after I button it all up, then it's on to the inside stairwell!

Picked up a "Coolidor" today from an older, retired pilot that had to quit due to Covid, as you can tell by the work bench behind it, it's 4' tall and about the size of a small refrigerator, it'll be built into the wall at the top of my stairs. But, the best part is what came with it...
3 unopened boxes plus 8 sticks of vintage 2016, Cohiba Esplendidos, 5 unopened tins of Opus X, a box of Carillos and Olivas unopened and a handful of various excellent smokes, he said he didn't smoke cheap cigars. lol
$300 bucks an old beater manual wind watch and he threw in the cigars!
Finishing up the entrance and trim today, should have an update soon.

Oh man, that's hard core.

The Cigar Gods smiled upon me.
They'll certainly be loved, I checked yesterday- Esplendidos at iHavana's are now $3,200 a box and Puro Express are over $2,100 a box. And these are vintage 2016 to boot!
Even my wife smiled and said WOW when I showed her this and she hates cigars.

Need to play a lot of Black Sabbath, and add a few photos of OZZIE to that entrance way. Big ( HUGE ) score on the cigars, but I tossed my cooler years ago. Looked cool, but didn't work great & wasn't the best set up for me or the quality cigars I like to smoke.

Yeah, I had cigar Jesus smiling on me that day.
I've read they can be finicky, but this one is cruising right along and barely changes +/- one degree in heat or humidity and I have it in my garage right now.
I wrapped and taped the outside with 1" reflective foam core board and tape so that made a big difference. Mine will be built into the wall when done so only the door will be visible.
Made a huge change on my entrance so stay tuned for the update coming soon, let's just say it was too monochromatic for my taste.

It's really come a long ways... And that is a nice humidor you picked up... I wish I had the room for something that large... Been wanting one of the dresser top models... There was a end table sized one too that I'd looked at before too.

This explains why OPUS - X Cigars are $75 + ea. AMAZING smoke if you ever have an opportunity to buy one grab it !!! You wont be disappointed

You mean like these?
I remember when Carlos Sr. was still alive he'd pull your shipments (the lucky few distributors) if he caught you selling them for more than MSRP which was $13-$20 per stick, but when the old man died Carlos Jr. said charge all you want boys, go for it!
These are so old they still have the original price of $45 per tin attached!
Opened one the other night, time has been very "sweet" to them, they've aged amazingly!
