thoughts on my idea-tailgate storage

was thinking of getting something like this to screw into the inside of my tail gate for extra storage. would be a nice place to store some tools, flashlight, first aid kit etc. its not very large but large enough to fit some essentials etc.
I would remove the shoulder strap of course but if anyone can think of a reason not to do this let me know. thanks

This is really nice... trying to save some $$ but this is tempting. like the rear seat idea too but I took the seat out the first say I got the jeep lol. two reasons, got the jeep as I did not want to take my shepherds in my new buick and the other reason, gets me out of having to take people anywhere, no room haha..

I hear ya! I particularly like that rear tailgate molle option I linked to. I've seen other Wrangler owners who have it (in person), and it looks and functions fantastic. Not to mention you can add a lot of stuff onto it with the molle setup (i.e. flashlights, anything with clips, etc.)

It's not not very big (Dimensions: 12.6" W x 9.8" H x 3.1" D), personally I would keep looking for additional options. A 50 cal ammo can fits nicely in the footwell behind the front seats, is waterproof, and gives you more storage than that bag. Just a thought.

If it helps, I used the TM storage bin from a M35A2 2.5 ton Army truck. Works great and still allows room to put half doors and rear soft windows in there. Has enough storage for some tools, a can of pb blaster, or whatever else you need to store!

The size is perfect to mount on the tailgate and have some extra storage. I used rivet nuts to attach it. I like it because it holds a few things but isn't so big it gets in the way.

Personally i couldn't deal with the fact this looks like a man bag. I like the link that Chris posted for the tailgate as that is much more wallet friendly than the back seat molle. I also like the ammo cans a lot.

It was smaller than I anticipated and I could not install my two 10" subs i had planned on. I also modified it by drilling the corners where the metal connects and bolting those shut so it couldn't be opened like a can with a can opener. It fits perfectly with the back seat which you won't have to worry about. I am also thinking about removing my seat.

I also have this in my rig. I have an 8" subwoofer box in the spot behind the seat. I like it and I would recommend one. I will eventually remove the subwoofer and use that space for storage, it's a good sized area.

@Machinehead49, my 500 watt amplifier is under the back seat on the drivers side. Maybe that'll help you have more space, sounds like you're gonna need it with 2 10 inch subs in the back.
