TJ Shock & Spring Specification Resource Thread

It's probably trying to download the file. But I don't use iOS anymore. @Chris it seems that should just be a table in the OP, no?
Yes and no. It’s much easier having the Excel file since it can be opened and edited. It gives me the option of both viewing and downloading on my iPhone, so why he can’t is really an oddity. I’m using Safari as well.

Never mind I swapped to Google chrome and it worked

That’s odd. Works fine for me in Safari. Well at least you got it working, that’s good news.

Hey @Chris I didn’t see my springs on the list so I thought I would share the info.

Rock Krawler 4.5 inch springs
Front - RK06013 - free length 22 inches
Rear - RK66093 - free length 18 inches

I don’t have the spring rate because they are triple rate.

Thanks, I just added them!

I took the spreadsheet from the original post and added a couple of columns, including one that calculated the shock ride height at which each shock would be at 50/50 bias for up and down travel (it's just the compressed length plus half the travel length). Then I measured my suspension cycle and ride height with my new 4" Currie springs. My Front shock ride height is about 21.75", compresses to ~17" and extends to 27". Basically, +/- 5". My Rear shock height is about 21", compresses to 15" and extends to 27" (+/- 6"). Based on this, the Skyjacker Black Max shocks highlighted below seem to be as close to a perfect fit as you could hope for. They're also super affordable. I've seen a variety of reviews of these shocks, but mostly better than average.

I know this spreadsheet isn't exhaustive, but I don't see any options from the more commonly recommended brands (Rancho, Fox, etc). that match the specs I'm looking for. Is there something else I should consider? Or a different approach I should take?

I just want to double check before I place an order.
Thanks!

@Chris
the front Jk black max shock b8575 can be used on the front of the TJ with a 3-4” lift and a 2” bumpstop. you need to press in a TJ bar pin. The published lengths are 15.39” collapsed and 26.31” extended. It offers a length between the TJ b8525 and the TJ b8549 shocks

Great info, thanks for sharing this!

Looks Like the chart is hidden behind a paywall for my new computer. I have to buy microsoft office to view the chart. :[ I don't see where to ask a question and it's 3 AM...so... I'll try it here and with some luck an answer will appear. I want to put a small plow on the front of my TJ. 6'6" wide, weight unknown, perhaps 350ish. I built the mounting system by plasma cutting a 3/8 i beam into brackets to attach the stock western mount to the frame. my question is about coil springs. I have 14" with the jeep weight so... 2" lift. The coils are getting squishy and I'm wondering who makes the most load bearing springs to handle the plow weight. I'm looking at product weights and thinking old man emu weighs the most so most able to handle the weight. The rubicons have a great price right now perhaps they will work but they weigh 6 lbs less so... I wish there was another way to see the chart. I perhaps will break down and buy microsoft office but I will never need it other than to see your chart. Was it free before windows 11? I am going to use air bags but thought I would add springs/ coils and shocks at the same time. Can you give me a hint which coils handle heavy loads the best with my 2" lift , snowplow set up?

Try one of these methods explained in the provided link to view the doc. The easiest would be to drop the file into google chrome.

So that’s why there was an overdraft on my acci was ount..

Last night During my personal Late Late show I realized my O. M. EMU numbers were way off. Not sure why I had O. M. EMU at 28 lbs and then found out they were 16lbs. Yep I'm a Tard... So because I can't see the chart any body know who make the stiffest coils? I'm at 2" lift ...should I get the Rubicons at 3.5 lift? Don't they make a 2" lift? seems weird they go straight to 3.5". Considering my springs are age unknown , should I suspect they were taller when new? If I did the 3.5",s will I need to change my other linkages for the extra 1.5" lift? Thinking about what I'm saying I would guess I should stay at 2". The only 2" coils I have seen are Rough country anybody have a different recommendation for a stiff spring ( insert Viagra joke here). Driving tonight I'm getting the squishy wander so I'm going to start in front then figure out the rears to eliminate the Tokyo teapot look... I will try to read all the previous forum posts about coils soon... but I was hoping to just ask as I have a time crunch to be ready to plow and I'm headed out of town for 3 weeks. I guess that's my built in reading and order time, so I'll be ready with parts when I get back. Can't wait to work outside under the jeep in late Dec.

What are you trying to achieve?

Do your existing springs not provide the desired ride height?

Is this desired ride height with or without the plow? You can't have it both ways, btw. You must choose one. This usually means you need load assist air bags for when the plow is attached.

I ordered the Air bags a few days ago. The jeep wants to wander without the plow equipment mounted. I'm sure it will get worse when I stick another 400 lbs in front of the old bumper mount. My first CJ I owned always felt like it had one wheel that was 5 inches off the ground and would tip back and forth. Front left to back right If you understand what I'm saying. I'm sure it was a coil problem. I'm starting to feel that again in my 2000 TJ after I carried some heavy laminate flooring. I think my coils are at their end. I was looking for what is probably in the chart I can't see. I'm sure given enough time I can figure out the info I need. Perhaps it's in another thread here. I was looking for a shortcut to the info I can't see unless I buy it from Microsoft. Yep I'm cheap some times. Also does anybody know why auto correct refuses to let me write Tee Jay and corrects to TI?
