Tomtaylz build and adventures

I don’t necessarily trust myself to do a clean wiring job, and I wanted a good foundation to add things to in the future, so I exported the job. I’m pretty pumped how things turned out. And the sPod system is really cool, I can control it from my phone which will be nice for the side camp lights when using the tent.

Only thing left to do is I need to relocate the air compressor input, it’s under the coolant tank right now but it should be easy enough to attach it to the side of the engine bay.

Nice and clean, my recent install of the ORO Mini York air compressor had me questioning whether or not I wanted more wires going through the firewall and yet another switch to put somewhere, so I understand where you're coming from.

Yeah although the sPod is pricey, it’s super nice in that respect. Only one cable coming through the firewall to the controller with 8 switches. I believe you can daisy chain together sPods too and use them from one controller if you really had a lot of accessories.

They sell a touch screen also but I figured the buttons will be nicer when driving especially having something tactile and it has all the same functionality.

Finally finished a few outlying tasks around the truck. I ordered a molle panel for the bed side and attached my first aid kit to it, it’s on a quick release so super convenient. Eventually it’ll be moving a bit, I had planned on putting the spare back underneath but I found out the previous owner had removed the spare tire hoist among other things. I’ll just have to wait for my new bumper.

I have a propane mount and 6# tank coming, the idea is to attach it somewhere along the panel also. I may need to move the ladder (the object to the left of the first aid kit) but i’ll figure that out when the time comes.

The shifter in the truck is one of those things which has always bothered me. It’s just large and ugly looking end doesn’t really fit the truck at all. I purchased a shifter from a chevy blazer, reusing the current boot just changing the electrical. I like the way it turned out.

I may try to swap in a heated steering wheel next. I need to do a bit more research.

Lastly, this past weekend I took a cruise up Highway 1. Great time just enjoying nature and the views. To end the day I ended up using the RTT as a sunset viewing platform, complete with blankets!

Spent a fairly wet couple of days at Pinnacles National Park. The campsite was pretty quiet, which I think the rain kept the crowds away. Half way through our hike we got dumped on, but we saw quite a few condors and explored most of the small park. The mornings in the winter are also quite cold at pinnacles, where you quickly take off your layers by midday. Everything did it’s job and I stayed fairly dry and warm.

Some small tasks:

My propane tank came so I quickly reconfigured my molle panel, attaching the ladder to the spare tire.

We moved the air input for my arb compressor, it was mounted under the coolant tank and very hard to get to. We ended up running the air hose along the frame and creating an input at the rear bumper.

In doing this task, we either forgot to attach, or didn’t tighten the coolant lines (we needed to move the tank) which created a bit of drama. Driving home I heard a clunk before my CEL and low oil pressure light came on. I was most of the way home at around 11 at night but pulled over to find coolant all over the engine. Towed to the dealer as I was scared of additional damage (after reattaching the lines, the oil pressure light was still on). They ended up just adding coolant and repressurizing the system and all is good in the world again. Expensive mistake but definitely will be double and triple checking things in the future.

On the plus side I got to ride in my truck while on the flatbed due to covid which was an interesting experience 😆

I also got an ExPed mattress for Christmas. Everyone raves about these things so i’m excited for it. I had it for pinnacles and will say it stays very warm as the air inside is heated by your body, which was great on a cold night. I think it was a bit more comfortable than my mattress + topper but it’s easier to close the tent now as I can just let air out which really is the biggest complaint I have with my tent. I recently ordered a diesel heater too which should allow me to have a bit less bulky bedding while staying toasty warm, this should help with closing the tent as well.

It fits really well overall, only a couple of inches shorter!

Wow it’s been quiet over here - purchased a house mid summer which between looking, moving, renovating, etc has been most of the year activity. However, some work is starting again on the truck as well as i’m getting out for more trips

We’ve been trimming the fenders to fit new wheels and tires coming soon.

I’ve also ordered some kings which have a very long back order. The plan is to outboard the kings to really have more clearance on my back axle, flip the u joints and raise the exhaust to get a ton more clearance around the back axle. Lastly, planning on installing some new headlight projectors, a front trail cam and a dash cam

Here’s a collection of random photos from trips and adventures this year:

All those pictures are great. I was just telling a buddy about your tent and solar? I definitely did a double take on that, such a nice setup.
Thanks! Its the best sleep I’ve ever had camping in it and love the tent - I might switch it up early next year but for a similar setup but something which would give me a bit more bad weather flexibility.

Got some new wheels, @Alex01 helped me with painting them ‘Nardo Gray’ and we kept the onyx rock rings with black hardware and went up to 33s.

Also we’re doing some cutting, welding and suspension work soon as my control arms show up. Sneak peak:

Still need to get a tree from MNF one year, but I got one step closer cutting down my own tree this year vs using a fake one hah.
