Underhood light install

I haven't been able to find a 2 sided led yet, the standard ones only light up one side but they're still a lot brighter than the O.E. bulb

I found a version of the LED with twisted ends, so the elements face out instead of to the side. Like this one:

I like the GM retractable hood light mod that I found here. It looks like this one but I bought a new one on Ebay for $10. I wonder if they have all been sold. The seller had a bunch.

Found a used one of the retractable hood lights on ebay and wired it into the weighted switch in the stock light fixture so I won't accidentally leave the light on by habit.

I've been considering mounting a couple of the kC Cyclone lights under the hood wired into the stock under hood light switch

I used what appear to be the same ones except they're from Amazon:

It made a huge difference in brightness and they don't get hot like the stock bulbs.

@SamwiseGamJeep just tapped his to trigger some leds when he raises the hood, lights up the entire garage. Simple but bright idea ...that’s funny. Bright idea. Chris, can you fix it so I can like this post?

14 leds from Oriellys, and a spring to hold my broken plug on while hood is down. (For quick disconnect, and holds it up if forgotten) the bracket the light bars are attached to is actually an aluminum case cover salvaged from a mini charger that died. Covered the spring with a section of fuel hose, to dampen and protect it.

Some of the times at the bachelor pad are kinda... fuzzy and hard to remember. I'm not sure why... I lived with some dude with a bright yellow mint CJ I think...

They do turn on and off a lot when off road, I never noticed it until I put hood louvers on! Kinda funny.

I installed one of these and kept the OEM hood light too. I discovered the LED lights I bought for my back up lights are the same bulb as the GM retractable light.

Why not wire in a switch instead of tapping into the underwood light?

Tried that, they kept popping out of the retainers, I'll have to give it another go when I have more time

So you can use what you have until you implement one of the other great solutions here.

Also, you can get LED replacement bulbs that give much better light.

Yes - see the reply from Voodooridr - that's the one I've got. Ebay has a listing, too, but direct ship from China. I'd rather work with Amazon with someone who has them in stock here in the States.

Those are nice, I was looking at them, but don't remember the price, How much were they? My mod cost under $20
