Noticed my 99 TJ started making a clunking sound. Traced it to me power steering pump. Plenty of fluid.

How long do you think I have before total failure?

(Attempting to attach video. Not sure that’s allowed.)

I've seen one go from whining to total bearing failure in miles. Also have seen one last for a long time.

How sure are you its the pump? I would pull the belt off and check all the pulleys by hand for bearing play and noises to be sure.

No real way to predict. Buy a new pump as rebuilt units are a crap shoot. Also search for the proper way to bleed the system as doing it incorrectly can burn up a pump in short order.

It lasted about an hour. Then spewed fluid all over my garage floor. I gave the steering system an overhaul today. Replaced everything from the steering wheel linkage down. Pump, pulley, gear, hoses, pitman arm and nut, a HD drag link and tie rod, and steering stabilizer. They were all old and suspect. She should be good to go for quite a while.
