That is my impression, although I have no direct experience with it. I recently read a thread on CO about someone having their lines rebuilt. Maybe that was in your thread?

Could be. I was asking about what people are doing. Earlier model years have re-pops as an option though so they mostly just do that. I think new uncrimped fittings are going to need to be welded on to the lines then new hose crimped on. That's my impression from what people on CO said anyways.

In all likelihood I'm just not going to drive it on crazy hot days the rest of the summer then hopefully the line to get them rebuilt in the winter will be much shorter.

I was thinking you needed the suction line. The discharge will be a little more work. You would want to cut the hose off the muffler and weld a straight “o” ring fitting to the muffler. Then build a hose with 2 straight fittings on to attach to the muffler fitting and the other end to the condenser. It does not look like you could get a crimped in there if you had a barbed fitting welded to the muffler. If you have a local a/c shop or radiator shop they should be able to do that.
I would also look into converting to R134 or another refrigerant. I don’t know if R12 is available. That would require both hoses changing the oil and possibly a pusher fan.

No shops will touch that kind of work around here that I've found unfortunately. I've already got a VIR eliminator calibrated for R134a and added a couple of pusher fans (also aluminum replacement compressor because jeeze that A6 is heavy). It blows decently cold which I needed as it was my daily in Okinawa. I've got a parallel flow condenser on backorder from OPGI too. That's why I want to get something figured out with this hose before that gets in so I only have to crack the system once.

I did just discover it's a pin hole leak in the hose itself and not a leak at the crimps like I thought. I wonder if cutting the hose at the hole and putting some kind of splice in the middle is an option? Is that a thing?

The problem with early hoses is they are not a barrier hose and my understanding is 134 will seep through the hose. Check the link I posted to see if they can do it.
 
Thanks. That’s is where I have been getting my stuff so far, along with Bronco Graveyard.

I do plan on converting to power steering. It will not be cheap but should be more comfortable to drive.

When are you gonna cut those godawful rear wheelwells.sorry just addressing the elephant in the room.(j/k

I understand why the later years came cut from the factory but I swore to the Bronco Sanhedrin that I would never trim them. Apparently they are sacred or something.
