Shopping around for bumpstop extensions. I'm seeing a lot of options with a big price range.

Why is this $120,

while this is $9?

I have an inkling that bumpstops aren't really the thing to splurge on. Doesn't seem like there would be too much performance difference between an expensive and cheap bumpstop extension, especially considering it's rare that someone bottoms out their suspension. Am I wrong on this?

What are you running and what do you recommend?

I went from nylon body lift pucks to Currie.

What does the Currie offer over others? Is it worth the extra money?

It depends on the build. There comes a point if there is enough suspension movement where the profile of the Currie bumps and the way they are split between the upper and lower halves will fit and line up better than making the factory cup work.

I've read people saying add extension to the axle side in front and frame side in rear. Is it just not worth it to split the extension between top and bottom at lower lift heights? It doesn't seem like it would be too much more work.

Also depends on your lift height and axle position. 3" and taller, the front springs tend to arch a bit on droop. They have a tendency to hit the upper jounce bumper. dividing the bump stop to upper and lower helps with that interference. The best way for you to find out is to cycle the suspension and go full bump to determine what hits and what fits. Some cases a couple hockey pucks on the bottom and retain the factory upper jounce works.

When using the cup, I prefer to add extension to the front axle pad. The same is true for the rear, but it's easier not to and consequences of not doing so are less severe.

I ran something along the lines of the $9 setup until I swapped my 3" springs+3/4" spacers for rockjock 4" springs. At that point I was getting interference at full droop between the spring and the cup, so I went for the $120 setup. It's worth if you need it; if you don't, then it's probably not.

Still running the cheap setup in the rear, on the frame side.

Depending on the amount of lift much more than and inch spacing on the front cup leads to a lot of coil twang. Also have the front spacing on the axle pad makes it a little easier when removing the coils.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I think I'll be going with the cheaper route, as I don't expect to go above 3" of spring lift for a while.

It’s actually a lot of work comparatively to add bump stop to the axle rather than the frame side because you have to remove the springs & drill the pad, with the frame side you can add those Prothane spacers above the jounce cups with the springs in place, takes 2 minutes. Though if you need more than one spacer as said above you're pulling the spring and drilling anyway...

I got away with splitting the extension up front with 3 inch coils so I think you’ll be fine; I did it out of necessity because when I went to add more up there I couldn’t get my axle pad extension off due to a stripped bolt, so I added a pair of those Prothane rear extensions to the top & that solved the bumpstop issue without causing any interference with the springs.
