Why are TJs so much money?

You know when you are reading crap and ads come up that are because you searched for things etc., and I see this 2014 Wrangler pop up and was thinking I will have that amount into my TJ and it is 10 years older. Can anyone explain? Maybe I am missing a few things? I mean personally I prefer the TJ and its style, but most people in my experience want the newer larger version.

On the way to work today I was riding my bike as I usually do and saw a Range Rover D90. I always thought they were just a beautiful design, BUT to be quite honest, they really can't deal with a good old Wrangler on a trail. Nonetheless, I would love to have a D90 just for the style and love the soft top model. I just decided to look at their prices. WTF! $50K for a nice one sort of? Up to WAY more for near perfect. I think the TJ is a steal compared to those, but I still love them. Of course they are much more rare and they can't import them to the US.

Same issue when compared to a clean FJ40. If you found an FJ as clean as your TJ, you'd be looking at the mid-20's for price. Just count your blessings, and let's hope the word doesn't get out as to what a bargain the TJ is compared to the alternatives!

I agree With ac. The Tj is just going to get more desirable as time goes by and the demand will only increase. The TJ ( TOUGH JEEP) is one heck of a Jeep, thats the bottom line!

TJs will become collectible, I guarantee that. It might not happen for 30 more years, but they’ll get to the point where people really want them.

The JK has its benefits, but with all the electronics and the much more complicated engine, you can safely say that the TJ was the last of an era where emissions weren’t as crazy as they are now, and all the electronic gizmos weren’t as important.

The TJ strikes a fine balance between a classic, but modern enough to have fuel injection (which is a big plus).

I actually like the new JL, absolutely.
BUT have to admit there's something about manually rolling a window up and down with today's technology....refreshing.

Looking under the hood, i see all the sensors , looks vacant.

The TJ appears to be the last Jeep before a great leap in refinery, appealing.

4.0 while underpowered has superior longevity, again appealing.

A mint TJ brings a premium but justifiable IMO.

I think they demand a premium for two basic reasons:

1) They are iconic. There is no other vehicle like a Jeep.
2) They are in demand. People want them.

Yeah, I meant Land Rover. There are a few around here and I always liked them. There was a time you could pick one up for like $7K. lol Not anymore.

One would have to be a bit crazy to want an old jeep, therefore request a crazy price.

I have only $600 into mine, it had sat in a field for 3 years. As it appears to have made it through the winter, I will probably be spending a thousand or 2, and another hundred hours of work, when it warms up a bit.

I keep an eye to who can maintain it. British vehicles and German vehicles are out in this part of the world. I was originally looking for a side by side when a friend suggested a tj would be almost as capable and half the price. (18k Canadian vs 7k Canadian) Plus no need to use a trailer.

I'll be honest, I think a Rubi would run circles around a D90 on a trail. I remember researching them MANY years ago when I had my XJ and I felt a TJ was top of the heap with very little mods needed if any. Still love the D90 with those tiny directional lights and such. Too cool.

When watching Youtube videos, it always appears the Land Rover can just crawl over and through obstacles, The jeep attack with momentum and bounce their way through. If I were to try Cape Horn to Barrow, I think I would prefer a classic Rover. But if I took into account the availability of repair part for that trip, I would have to chose a Rubicon.
