Wrangler TJ EV Conversion

I assume you've used the Wilwood EPB, so you speak from experience, yes?
Sarcasm gets you nowhere with me. There is absolutely zero reason to load a vehicle up with complicated crap when something simpler/cheaper will do the job and do it more reliably.
 
We are going to change our strategy up a bit and try to focus on the TJ Kit first and to be be done and starting to deliver this year.

The plan, (I laugh as I type that word...), the plan is to get this first TJ done with a donner TJ to keep as the proof/demo TJ and get the next 4 TJ's in from the City contract PLUS the first 1 or 2 Retail customers TJs underway to get the first RC Kit (Release Candidate) into testing late June, early Aug for a Sept small batch open sale (maybe just 10...) to be delivered to advanced* retail customers and builders by Jan of 2027.

That's the plan.

We'll put aside the CJ and YJ Kit work for now, get one compete Kit for TJs out and see what the world looks like.

Advanced Retail Customer qualifications:
- TJ in the right shape, mostly stock
- Owns a cherry picker or his neighbor does
- A friendly neighbor that can help.
- De-ICE'd TJ, ready to be electrified.

BUT, if you insist, and to prove your point, I've got a box of distributor contact points I'll let go of VERY cheaply. You come fetch them, they'll be outside in a box next to the freedom-restriction seatbelts and you can get rid of all that fuel injection electronic crap and go back to points.

Ugh, you're only saying that because you don't understand it. Electric Parking Brakes are an IMPROVEMENT, not crap.

Just to push you over the 'electronic crap' edge, we also use the Volvo P/S unit (flawless) and the Bosch iBooster (equally flawless) for P/B and, as listed above, the Guchen A/C compressor. Just those three parts alone, save about 19-24% of the waste HP of an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) setup.

No, it's not crap, you just aren't familiar with it yet. I get that, I do.

With no flywheel it may not need to be synchronous.

So, after a ton of driving without a clutch, both with regen in single pedal mode and regen turned off, the secret seems to be in the programing we did to control the reduction of motor RPM to mimic the ICE setup return to idle when you take your foot off the accelerator.

It's magic, I honestly don't know how else to describe it.

Funny you should mention realiability, it's just below the NO HEAT as the most amazing thing about EV Jeep conversions, they are sooooo reliable.

How are they unsafe exactly, I want to hear every single thing you worry about, please, fill me in!

No, not that expensive, less than a full LS swap, that's for sure. AND, so easy on the wallet come fill up time - how's $0.06/mile grab you these days?

Why not switch to an iBooster and use can bus controls for an e-brake?

AGREE, yes, that's what I said, we use iBoosters for the brakes, exactly. They are GREAT.

But, no, you can't use the CAN bus side of either the Volvo P/S or the iBooster P/B. The hack lends nothing to the party, at least not that we can tell.

Both have fantastic limp modes that make them pretty much plug-n-play.

That's what I was thinking. But, if you were to do an LS swap to the same caliber as this (new/built engine, new transmission, etc) I can be live it costing more

Here's one of the things that no amount of money can escape with an ICE setup in a Jeep engine bay: HEAT.

There is not physical way to cool ANY ICE engine in a bay both that small and, much more importantly, shaped as wrong half of an hour-glass.

It is thermodynamically impossible to achieve stasis (dissipation of waste heat at a predictable yet variable flow rate - Jeep moving slow or fast) in a Jeep.

There is absolutely no escaping the math.

You can not cool any ICE motor above a certain liter size in that enclose, and 'that' size is not a inline 6.

It's a crap hard ceiling.

Take these three things out of your typical Jeep driving life and tell me how you might feel afterwards:
  • HEAT,
  • all engine noise,
  • the smell of all that Jeep crud that only gets good and fresh once it's nice and warm down there - pretend like those things are gone in your Jeep experience.

Now, add one two three things you get instantly with and EV Jeep:
  • reliability,
  • almost no engine bay maintenance,
  • 100% torque at 1 RPM.
Things that stay the same:
  • your entire drive train, that and every other thing you've got in your Jeep.
Feels like a magic RC-car ride every time, and, you can hear each other talk, it's that quit.

Like I said, it might not be for everyone, but it will be a thing for some. I'm okeydokey with that.

I don't know about that... If I had a fan shroud my jeep would have no issues staying cool, I'm just too lazy to fix it lol. Also, there are multiple LS Swaps I know of that have no issues staying cool if they're set up right.

Wheeled with one last week that stayed cool using a stock TJ radiator.
