Quirks of the 97 model

Sure, I'll have a look and see what pics I can provide. Mine is an SE with the 2.5L, in case that matters.
Not sure, if I knew that, I'd probably know the rest. 98 up is easy and we have examples. We do not have a 97 and it is missing the Leak Detection Pump even though it is a CA emissions rig.

1996 and 1997 are generally pretty unique across OEMs because these are the very first years of OBD2. I would not be surprised if a 97 TJ did not have a LDP.

@mrblaine
I have attached some pictures from 97 Jeep evap system. I just had to rebuild the canister.

I worded that poorly, it isn't missing as in it was there and is lost, it is missing due to not coming that way from the factory. We have enough of the plumbing that we can tell it doesn't have a LDP.

In this one, the 3/8" vacuum line connection at or near the manifold, what does that connection look like where the rubber hose ends?

BTW- I forgot to say thanks for the pics and I have a couple more questions. How does one rebuild a charcoal canister?
Is your purge valve the one it came with or has it been swapped out? Reason I ask is there are two versions. Has to do with which end is up, and how it is marked. Some have the small end up, some have the small end down. Some are marked TOP like yours and some are marked BOTTOM.

Thank you. In the pic below, does that hose connect to the 3/16" hard line that comes up the frame from the rear of the rig, runs parallel to the fuel line and then does a 90 degree bend to point at the canister?

Yes. There is a bracket under the intake manifold where the line turn 90 degree and go to canister. Above the bracket is input of 3/8 line in manifold by a fitting.

@Bdaust , @Wildman , @LittleTankTJ , @mrblaine ,

Is it easy to summarize, for a dunce like me, what is different about @Bdaust's pics of the 97, compared to other years? Just so I can add it to the list in the OP of this thread.
I only know about the things already mentioned, lack of a LDP, different charcoal canister, and may some fittings on the manifold which I will check later.

One thing that is very odd but very helpful is all of the holes for mounting stuff for the 97 and 98-06 inner fender crap are still there. I'm using a set of late model fenders from a Rubi and they have the same holes for the PDC and later square charcoal canister mount.

If someone wants to post up a pic of their PDC bracket, my 97 is the two finger mount, later ones are 4 finger but I don't know if that is a 97 only thing. Has to do with on some at least if the lid opens from one side or one narrow end.

Has anyone mentioned the rubber grill trim near the radiator yet?

Your welcome. I have my Jeep since brand new. I just replaced the purge value. I keep the old one with part oem part number on it. I purchased the filter from Napa and new purge value. My canister was leaking charcoal into purge value. I cut the bottom seal off with a hand saw and clean out filter materials. I epoxy it back together.

Being aware of the difficulties sourcing a new canister, I'm trying to convert mine to the later style. That and I like using the bracket as a mount for the PSC steering reservoir.

Thanks. I'm going to re-read these posts and take a close look at mine when I get back to it.

I have one example of a specific electrical difference. My 97 trans uses a different style torque converter lockup solenoid/connector than the other years.

Mine was the same. We had the 3 pin pop on rubber cap that dries out and gets hard and won't stay on. I swapped to the later style connector with a repair connector and the later NSS. (it isn't the TCC connector and you're slightly confused, or I am)

The TCC connector is the same on the harness but the pass through connector and internal solenoid connection was different.
