Motobilt boat side sliders

So I found, with some digging, the thread on sliders. What drew me to the Motobilt is i like the look. After reading, I see that the JCR‘s of the same basic appearance have better attachment of the step. I saw your recommended requirements, and they seem to reach all… @JMT said his hesitance to them is they aren’t ww2ww, but that is just the step, while the rocker plate is ww2ww.

@mrblaine , what benefit does the bracket they have that runs to the seat gain? Is it just to transfer any side impacts over a larger area to keep tub integrity? Would it be more beneficial to install a backing plate to bolt through to like what the Savvy system uses?

The bracket that runs to the seat is meaningless without the rest of the design following appropriate build principles. It the backer doesn't run under the tub and bolt to the torque box, why bother with the seat bracket?

This stuff is basic design, basic reinforcement and load mitigation. It really shouldn't be this hard for designers to figure it out.

Wife’s Jeep, worst that it will ever see are Badge trails. She bought it new, I was the first to take it anywhere but the mall. She needs a step, but does not like the tube ones that are welded onto the rocker armor.

I did read through the slider thread, and see the points, and the JCR does meet what you look for. My question is would you use the seat bracket or would it be better to go with an inside backer like savvy?

For actual usage I don't see any reason to go for anything but savvy, but the slider doesn't make a great step if that's what you're looking for. I use it that way, carefully and with grippy shoes but the image of all my 170 pounds coming down with my shin on the door sill flashes through my minds eye every time I step on it with my cowboy boots.

He already indicated he wasn't going to use them as they were designed to be used, he is after looks as much as anything else, so it really doesn't matter what he gets and that puts the Savvy stuff near the bottom of the list. They aren't for looks. They aren't for stepping.

I recommend putting in a grabbar (attached to the a-pillar) to help make entering the Jeep easier. It's a very natural movement to pull yourself into the vehicle rather than stepping up and then into it.

Buy a real slider if you are going to take it on the trails. Get the Savvy one if you can afford it. Do not get a slider with a tube step, it's pointless.

I have the JCR's. They required quite a bit of extra work to get them mounted a way I was happy with... And they still suffer from the design issue @mrblaine mentioned.

The part you would use to pivot around a tree or rock it's only attached to the backer plate with four 5/16" screws that go into sheet metal "nuts." To make matters worse, the JCR installation says to drill through the torque box and the floor to install 4 more 3/8" bolts. A good hit has the potential to both tear the torque box and rip the "step" from the backer.

When I reinstalled mine (after tub replacement), I used nutserts to the torque box... Like 9 of them. I also increased the number of screws that hold the back plate to the tub. Further, I used 3/8” fasteners from the step portion to the backer. Finally, to get an even door reveal, I had to add material to the part that suits on the torque box. It was a GIANT pain in the ass to get theses installed so I was happy with them, and they still aren't as well designed as the savvy sliders. They work for me, now, but I wish I had just bought Savvy to start with.
