Topped up the oil and gave Bruiser a bath ready for a drive out to Hunua Falls about an hours drive from me. Managed to get a great pic of one of our native woodland birds the Tui...(cant get this close normally)...This whole area now is very commercialized ..spoilt it a bit really, but still an nice spot.

Finally got my RS5000X shocks installed today after waiting for rock auto to send a replacement. Everything went good except finding out that whoever installed the last shocks on my Jeep must have broken the passenger rear upper bolts off. The nuts welded to the frame had been chiseled off and it had nuts and bolts holding the upper mount on. Not really a big deal except for the fact that they used crap for hardware.

No worries, I promptly made a trip to Home Depot for some proper grade 8 hardware. Crisis averted.

Took jeep to self wash today and blasted the hell out of it from underneath. Got it clean and all ready to spray the underside with fluidfilm but realized there was about a 1/8 inch of standing water sitting in the frame after. Drilled 4 holes in the bottom of the frame and a ton of water poured out. Drilled a 5/16 hole right behind every control arm bracket. Highly recommended if you haven’t already. Wish I would have known about that before.

Here they are. I used a 5/16 bit to make 4 holes, all about 1.5 inches inward from the control arm mount on the frame.

Basically, I measured how much material I needed to allow the little angled end caps to still fit in and marked it there.

Top tip- get a bevel guage to copy the angle. If I recall correctly, it’s not quite a 45° angle.
Make the straight vertical cut up the front and the short ~1/2” 90° cut first, then cut the angle to meet it. Otherwise you end up overcutting and having to use a bit of bondo.

Would you be so kind as to tell me what your overall width is on the front bumper?
Somewhere around 41" i'm going to guess.

Kept original head for stock look. Kicker speakers front and rear with pods on front speakers. Kenwood sub. Was going to use kicker sub but to long to go under drivers seat. Satisfied with results

Yesterday I replaced both front axle u-joints and front hubs, greased the one u-joint that had a grease fitting (front driveshaft) pulled the rear wheels and drums to check the rear brakes. Trying to find and get rid as many squeaks and rattles as possible. Also found a new use for the hood latches.

I blew a brake line Saturday while getting some beer so I had to replace it this afternoon. Hit up a buddy for use of his shop, tools and knowledge, it was easier than I thought it would be.

Well I finished my 4.10 gear install today. New shocks arrived so was able to get my TJ back on all fours and take her for a spin. Was very pleased with end result. Jeep drives like new! Thanks to all those who answered questions on other posts and thanks to the people who posted the awesome YouTube videos. Without I wouldn’t have had the courage and confidence to tackle. It really wasn’t an extremely difficult job but it wasn’t easy either. Of course tools are what is really gonna help you get the job done. All of which are reasonable from Harbor freight. Now if you were planning on doing regears all the time, I’d invest in better tool quality. Soooo.... to all those contemplating doing there own regear, search and watch YouTube videos until you completely understand what you are getting into. Have your tools lined up and then dive in! Lol.
I’ve enjoyed the experience and now I feel like I can have a educated conversation with all those who have done before.
