LCoG and long arm lifts

Ok.....I am having trouble logging in from a computer.
I am going to try and answer everyone without quoting.

@Chris , When I built my TJ in the early 2000s, at the time it was a thing to be LCOG. I am trying to learn and was starting the conversation based on my previous experiences and what worked well for that TJ at that point in time.

@P man , thank you. I am using my gf's computer to read the post and answer on my phone......she got internet offended on the "tone" of some responses. I talked her down. Lol

@jjvw , thank you, again it was a build done prior to 2010.....and THANK YOU FOR THE DOG PIC AND PAT ON THE HEAD!

@L J , Thanks.....I love it. I got it in 2018.

@jjvw (Again)......I will look at the Savvy setup. I don't mind a small BL if it fits and has purpose.

@RINC Thanks! My prior build experience knowledge is (clearly...lol) outdated. That's why I'm asking here. I have wheeled in Ohio, at Paragon and Rausch Creek in PA and rescues on private land to save a friend at 2am in NNJ.

@Jerry Bransford prior build experience applied to an LJ, I remember how that Jeep did and the compliments I got on it and thought I could apply the same thought process.
Thank you.

@starkey480 I am going to dig in and research that. Thanks!

@Lightning Thank you! So I've had the LJ for 5 ish years now, I had to rebuild the transmission and replace the PCM (through wranglerfix) already. I have "extra vehicles" now and can do this....I think.

@Necro I am in Northern NJ. I actually called Clayton years and years ago when I was going to take the next step on my Tj to have them install it.....they were that close to me at the time.
Also, I doubt he remembers, but I spoke directly with Jeremy at Rockkrawler (had a connection through 4Wheel Drive Hardware) and we discussed suspensions.
Thank you!

And finally, if I missed anyone.....

Thank you for your input. It's why I've stayed with Jeeps and in the off road community (or kept coming back) since 2003 or so.

Wait - You thanked everyone who gave you crap, then failed to thank the only one who supported long arms?

@Chris! Cancel my account!

Iā€™m buying a damn Subaruā€¦.

Many good things can be accomplished with a 1.25" body lift.

On the topic of LCoG, if you reframe the idea as fitting the largest tire, with the most suspension travel divided 50/50 from ride height, with the most belly height, under the least amount of suspension lift, you can get into some interesting territory on a build that is neither excessively tall nor cripplingly low.

Not a dr......doesn't drive a subaru....lol.
She just didn't realize what could potentially happen and wasn't expecting it.

She is my driver.....currently I am not allowed to drive (medically, residual from a stroke in February 2022).
We have a few vehicles.
2018 Mini Clubman S All4
2021 Ford Explorer
2005 LJ
1974 VW Super Beetle
1951 CJ3A
And then a handful of motorcycles.

@jjvit would involve more planning.....and more questions. šŸ¤£

It means rethinking what it takes to setup a suspension that can work well and learning how to piece it all together.

Damn you're too young to be having a stroke though I know it happens to even some in their 20's. I had 2 mini-strokes earlier this ear in the middle of selling my old house and buying a new one, not the time for that to happen. Though I was 74 at the time. I hope you are on your way back to a full recovery, mine was 100% though I still have to take the post-stroke assortment of prescriptions every morning.

Thank you Jerry, I've definitely plateau'd in recovery.....but I am WAY better off than when it happened. My biggest issues are the cognitive ones. My speech and motor skills came back......but, I am now half blind in my left peripheral.
I don't know if I'll end up ON road, but I am going to build my LJ (probably with significant help) and she will drive to the trails and we will split seat time.
Basically I have been benchbuilding this and a mustang while I the hospital recovering from a 9 hour brain surgery.
The "funny" thing? I was selling a house when mine happened too!

Welcome!

I am still new to all of this. What I did was go out wheeling with local people I met from this here forums. The route for my build followed what others have done to tackle my local terrain.

I went out and went wheeling with @John Cooper. That led to a missing black Rubicon, a restraining order and deadbolts on all my doors.

Augie,

Sorry to hear about your health issue hope you fully recover quickly. Glad you have your daughter to rely on.

I gather from your location zip code you live on the east coast. Your long arm low CG idea sounds like it would be prefect for your needs.

You should understand most the guys hanging around this forum are TJ owners that like boulder crawling on the west coast where they can utilize 4 link short arm suspensions, like Savvy, to their advantage.

LJ's are a different beast completely, and the east coast trails, rock ledges and beach off roading lends the LJ to well designed 5 link long arm bolt on kit. Additionally a 5 link is always going to be better on the street.

Good luck and enjoy your LJ build journey.
