How do you keep your tail gate open when in camp?

Looking for ideas for keeping the tailgate open at 90 degrees while set up on uneven ground in camp.

A simple guyline staked out from the cargo basket can work but looking for something more refined.

FWIW I am using the Bestop HighRock 4x4 tire carrier and cargo basket with stock hinges.

I took a piece of oak, painted it black, and cut it to lodge in the hinge. I pack it with my recovery gear. Super easy.

LOL.. yes of course but I am often in powdery sand so it isn’t always possible.

That's completely ridiculous. LEAN the jack up against the tailgate to hold it open. That way it will be there for you to trip over in the dark so that everybody with you has something to laugh at.

Which one? The one on the hood, the one on the side or the one hidden under all the crap on the roof rack?

I usually just find a stick or something...lots of things you can bodge with a 28" chainsaw...or just the chainsaw wedges.

My problem is X2 since I have the tailgate AND a tire carrier. Really want to go back to a tailgate mounted spare and hinge reinforcement.

Oh, definitely the one under all the crap on the roof rack. Bonus points awarded if you have to shift at least two RotoPaxes to get at said jack.

I built a stay, the aluminum drop into a key hole then lift up on it to close

I did the same thing and it works great. I used a piece of PVC (3/4" x 1-1/2") and added a magnetic bar so I can mount utensils to it while cooking on the tailgate table I built.

Yours and the earlier both use the exposed bolt heads on the ExoGate. I don’t have those.
