Sooner or later most TJ owners are going to be running into a very common problem, I certainly am! Now that Chrysler isn't manufacturing CAM sensors for the infamous 2005-2006 TJs what is our best bet at a replacement manufacturer?? I've replaced my OEM OPDA with a Crown but kept using the OEM Cam sensor. After 18 years and 180K miles I'm getting P0344 codes so I'm thinking of replacing the Cam sensor, blindly! Can someone advise which after market sensor is the most well thought of? Thank you in advance.

Good point but it would nice to see which after market Cam Sensors are well thought of in case I or someone else may need to pick one up! Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried running the Crown sensor and it worked fine until it randomly left me stranded many months later.

That was before I knew to dial in the cam/crank difference and do the relearn. Maybe doing those will allow the Crown to work well for you.

I should probably try doing that before I jump to false conclusions. However I'll need to be schooled on how to dial in the Cam/Crank differences first. Then I'm wondering if you can do the manual relearn, (disconnect the positive lead and reconnect it to the negative lead while the negative is still attached to the negative post for a few minutes followed by reconnecting the positive to the positive post), on a new Wranglerfix PCM/ECU? Maybe Mark can chime in on that? Thanks!

it's easy once you have a device that provides the info. Just loosen the screw to the OPDA's hold down clamp enough to allow you to turn the OPDA with the engine running, then tighten it back up while trying to not move the OPDA. Once that's done just do the manual relearn. The thinkdiag2 device also provides an option to do the relearn.

I don't know why the manual relearn wouldn't work for the WF PCM, but I've never tried.

Thanks for the info. I did know the Thinkdiag2 provides the relearn function.

I use it to dial in the difference. The relearn didn’t update for me using the device and took many times manually before it worked. It may have worked using the device had I put the same amount of effort in.

I don’t know of anyone having the same relearn update issues that I’ve had. Just giving u the info in case it can be helpful.

How did you know you finally know you got the relearn to update? When your jeep finally stopped throwing a code????!!!

You will know the relearn worked once the cam crank learn matches the cam crank difference.

Here is after the difference was dialed in at 0.6 degrees using the thinkdiag2 device.

This is after the successful manual relearn.

Oh darn! I got my difference down to 3.5 and was just going for a test drive but, I'm an inquisitive kinda guy so I'm going to hook up my Thinkdial2 and see what the CamCrank learned tells me!! I'm glad you sent the pictures. I was wondering if I should look at the 3 other Cam/Crank things, haa haa!

My difference was around 3.8 before I dialed it in the first time. You can get the difference closer to zero than what my photos show.

My difference is currently at 0.3. I didn’t get any closer to zero bc the thinkdiag2 device doesn’t properly show negative readings. It might be fine but I don’t want to chance it.

I got my cam/crank difference down to 2.7 according to the Thinkdiag2 but I'll see tomorrow if I can get it down to be in your range and keep you posted! Thanks for letting me know your ranges.

I’m just passing on what I’ve learned from others in here. Happy to help :)

Yesterday when trying to get the difference as close to zero as possible, I would move the OPDA slightly and then check the Thinkdiag2. Back 40+ years ago when adjusting points in my car with a dwell meter, I could monitor the dwell meter as I rotated the distributor to get the most efficient degree reading. Can I do that with the Thinkdiag2?? I was just going out to fiddle with the jeep and was thinking how much easier it would be if I could use the Thinkdiag2 similar to how I used to do my points.
