What did you do to your TJ today?

Drove out to and then on the beach. This stretch is a few miles of rocky beach with not a single person to be seen

Came home and wrapping some miscellaneous stuff before the weather changes...
  • Polished the Pro Comps... Flitz is by far the best polish I have EVER used
  • Finished installing the Bartact seat warmers (Chinesium pair I installed this time last year were FUBAR from day one)
  • Prepped the center stack for a custom 3D printed switch panel that should be here in a week or two
  • Polished the side and back soft windows
  • X-Pel'd the Holley RetroBright LED headlights

Wrapped it up today and took it for a 20-25 mile drive with some highway driving. Replacement tranny feels fine and shifts fine.

Still need to address the skid plate not lining up. So there is currently only 4 bolts holding it in place.
I am just glad to be driving it again.

My plan is to keep flushing until 6:30 tonight. I'll let it cool for a couple of hours and then around 8:15-8:30, take off the t-stat housing, get it to Advanced Auto by the time they close at 9, and swap it out. I bought it from them a few weeks ago and it is slightly warped already. I'll get home, get the mounting area cleaned up, get a new gasket to mount the t-stat and t-stat housing, and fill it up with coolant. I'm going to call it done for now at that point.

Is there not a way to rig up a pump, a filter, some hosing and flush it 24 hours a day for a few days?

If I had thought of it sooner, I could have gotten one of those endoscope cameras, removed the engine block drain plug, and taken a look at the inside of the bottom of the engine block. That would have been really cool to see.

Sorry, really hard to get pics or video on these trails. I will check with my wife to see if she snapped any.

I've seen guys put a G-Pro in their windshield and put it on a head strap when they get out. It makes for great memories. I would go off-roading more, but I can't afford all the repairs, because I'd strip my gears trying to go 4WD Low and high, or worse. The cost of learning is just too high for me. But, I envy you guys, and I like watching them.

I've been monitoring some wetness on my engine's bottom front. It's most noticeable on the seam where oil pan and engine meet. It's not dark like oil, and you can see how the wetness starts higher up on the engine front. Also noticed a little dip in the overflow bottle's coolant level. Nothing major, just not at its normal "Full" mark.

Odds are, at a little over 109,000 miles its time for a new water pump. And thermostat. And gaskets. And metal inlet tube (original has bubbled, rusty spots, so why not at this point). I priced out the parts on various Mopar sites and even with their Labor Day sales they didn't beat Rock Auto.

I hope my offering pleases the OEM deities...

Oh, and the whole reason I was crawling around under the Jeep today: I sprayed some coil cleaner up into the evap drain to clean and refresh the air a bit.

I found out that the rear sway bar end link bushings that I bought don't fit the linkages on my Jeep. Those are going back and I need to buy new linkages to make sure they fit properly. Just Empty Every Pocket.

I did my muffler a couple weeks ago, heat shield was loose & rusted. , When I was under I grabbed the rears links to see if there was play. They were good. Grabbed the sway bar, the passenger said was loose about 1/16" Ordered new oem bushings, brackets, bolts.

I had a 97, put a lot into it, off'd it, sold it when kids were getting older. Bought this one 2017, I've done all fluids, driveshaft, Black Magic brakes, new lines, O2's, spark plugs .. etc. It's a work in progress. I dont off-road it, just enjoy running, doors off, bikini top, music playing.

Enjoy your posts.

Took advantage of a break in the heat to do the clutch master/slave on the 02. It's parked outside the majority of the time for now so the hard top & doors have been on it all summer. But I "had" to take the driver's door off to do the clutch, so I took the passenger off as well. Treated myself to a test drive to get a big drink from QT, and then further "test drove" it to Home Depot several times to iteratively fix my sprinklers. I love the get up & go of the 5 speed on 4.56's, but I prefer driving my 97 despite it's auto & 3.55's and lack of pickup.

And then I put the doors back on just now since there's a chance of rain overnight. :(

That would have been a good idea. And getting a look through the thermostat housing opening too. Or the water pump opening if you’d want to remove it. Get one now so you’ll have it ready if you’re going to flush again in a few months.

Just finished the 9th distilled water flush today and I've got the 10th one in the engine running right now. It is still has a definite brown tint to it.

The 10th one is my last flush. I have enough water to do an 11th, but it isn't worth it.

Did you do the back flush with the Prestone kit?
