When I sent an oil sample over to Blackstone Labs, they came back and said that I could push my OCI to 7.5k. I have the 4.0 and was using Rotella T6. Today, I changed my oil at 7k miles and when I refilled and started the engine up again, the motor was noticeably quieter. Less ticking and tapping. It was subtle, but noticeable. Does this mean the additives are worn out and I went too far on the oil and I should go back to changing at 5k? How are these engines with extended OCIs?
Who has experience with longer OCIs?

. Been a lot of oil all the way to 210,000 but she's sounds good. Guess it makes up for the cost of not running ZDDP. But the Castrol oil always comes back with traces of Zinc even though it's not supposed to have any....
I think you're just being hypersensitive.
I know every time I fix something... listening intently to every noise and bump stressing myself out.

The Blackstone tests are a great way to see how your oil is doing, and how your engine is wearing. Rotella T6 is a good oil, I always found the valvetrain likes the heavier 40 weight. I wouldn't be concerned with 7K oil changes, especially with the Blackstone tests.
The 3 month/3,000 mile oil change interval is pure marketing propaganda to sell more oil changes. It's a huge waste of your time and money to change your oil that frequently.
You can change your engine oil once a year or longer and up to every 10,000-15,000 miles (depending on conditions) with modern oils and there will be no difference. 7,500 mile/6 month oil change should be the shortest interval you should be considering. Unless you hate having money in your pocket.

I agree - having a UOA is the best way to see what your engine in your conditions is doing, and when is a healthy time to change the oil. Every vehicle I have with analysis on it shows I can go longer and typically am in the 7,500-10,000 mi range, but I still change at every 12 months regardless of actual miles.
I generally change oil between 3-5k in the Jeep....time is determined by my next trip. I like to change before longer trip so if it's only been 3k and I'll be leaving on a trip soon, it'll get changed. Longer in my F150 and the wife's Toyota. The Jeep drives in dust so I prefer to change a little more frequently. If I wasn't driving it off road I'd probably push it out to 6-7k.
I run SuperTech High Mileage synthetic 5W30. It's less than $20 per gallon so oil changes are cheap. Engines are expensive. Working well for me.

My RMS leaks just enough that I can probably get away with just changing the filter once a year.
Generally, viscosity will drop over time from shear and VM breakdown. Antiwear add pack loses reactivity over time as well so sacrificial layer will likely be thinner. Either could explain the noise reduction with fresh oil.
5000 is just so much easier to keep track of.
155k, 160k, 165k, etc.
The problem with not changing for 10k turns into not checking the level (or anything else) for 10k.
Seems like cheap insurance.
