Let's talk trailers

Big Tex is not the best but good value for the money. I’ve had a 70DM steel deck car hauler for 30 yrs. 10s of thousands of miles hauling cars and equipment all over the West. I had to replace the suspension pivot points a few yrs back, repainted it a few times and had to weld up some stress cracks on the fenders. I think I got my monies worth out of it. I’ve also have a 12’ 14K dump trailer that I’m very happy with. I just ordered new tires for it after 7+ yrs of use.

When I loan out my equipment, it comes with the operator

That’s what I usually do too. In this case he is one of my best friends. The kind that you can call at 3am when you need help and he’ll show up and vice versa for me. Few people will do that. The tires failed because of age not due to the flat spots. I did have to show him how to adjust the brake controller on his F250 SD afterwards. Very different settings between empty and loaded on that trailer.
I have a small group of friends that shares tools and equipment. Usually I’m there to help them.
Items no one including my Son get to borrow: chain saw, pressure washer and my TJ.

I concur, my list is similar but I add the Moto Guzzi and the F250

Have you guys found that when you say you won't let them borrow just a tool or something, but you will come do the work, that people are less likely to ask to borrow? That's what I've seen happen. Just thought it was kinda odd that when I started saying I won't loan out my tractor anymore, but I'd come do the work for them, people quit asking to borrow. Maybe I do bad work.

Actually, thinking about it, the "borrowers" dried up, but the people who offer to pay didn't. Maybe I just created a freeloader filter.

In retrospect, it has filtered out the freeloaders. I also tell them they need to include a few frosty drinks when the work is complete.

You’re going to think I’m crazy here. Which I am.
Same friend who flat spotted my tires is going to borrow my Kubota L3130 for the summer to do the grading on the home he’s building in Idaho. Here’s the kicker. I pulling it up there in June. He’s paying to rent a U-Haul car hauler and fuel. It’s my spare tractor and I told him to sell it up there so I don’t need to bring it back.
Yes he’s that good of a friend. When I went back to College in 91 he gave me a job at his Environmental Engineering firm. Best job I ever had. Full time benefited job where I was able to set my own hrs to fit around my school schedule and play with some nice equipment. Only reason I left after graduating is that the degree I earned and subsequent State and Federal certifications paid Way more than that job did.
I have spent time the last 2 summers helping with the construction. The best part is I have a very nice lake home in Central Idaho that I can use whenever I want.
