I need to weight mine. I bet itās nearly 6k with me and gear inside.
OK what are we looking at?
Skid plate crossmember reinforcement bolt clearance itself on my transfer case. Iāll probably find the transmission mount with the suspected crack in it when I take it apart.
That is a 5/16-18 extruded speed nut clipped into the Savvy crossmember with a stainless steel flathead #4 Phillips bolt that might be longer than 1".
I noticed mine chewed into the 241OR a couple years ago. Someone much more knowledgeable that me wasnāt concerned so I stopped worrying.
Mine was a bit worse than thisā¦possibly because my 1.25ā MML tipped the xfr case down more. I use an impact or ratchet with a 5/16ā socket for the larger Philip #4 bit. Trying to remove with a screwdriver is laughable when they are snugged up.
However it wound up like it is, the original hardware kit never had extruded U-nuts for the rear stiffener at the rear edge of the skid. Those fasteners are supposed to be the serrated flange nuts with screws that just come through them far enough to see one or two threads sticking past the top of the nut.I installed my skid 6 years ago and have had it on and off several times. I have always been able to remove the screws with my large screw driver. This is also new damage, as Iāve never had contact between the case and skid before. I did notice something different in vibes during Moab this trip.

The use of extruded U-nuts at the crossmember flange is both acceptable and common with little danger of running into a problem. They solve a minimal access problem that does not exist at the rear stiffener due to the access and wrench windows that I designed there. That and extruded U-nuts are not very common for thicker panels like the rear stiffener is made from. They exist, just not as common as they could be.My memory is shit. I believe I got the extruded nuts from Victor. He likely sent longer fasteners with the extruded nuts. Iām pulling the skid today and will know for certain their length. Either way, I need to check the transmission mount for cracks.
